Psalm 69:7-10

For I have endured insults because of You,
and shame has covered my face.(A)
I have become a stranger to my brothers
and a foreigner to my mother’s sons(B)
because zeal for Your house has consumed me,(C)
and the insults of those who insult You
have fallen on me.(D)
10 I mourned and fasted,
but it brought me insults.(E)

Psalm 69:11-15

11 I wore sackcloth as my clothing,
and I was a joke to them.
12 Those who sit at the city gate talk about me,
and drunkards make up songs about me.(A)

13 But as for me, Lord,
my prayer to You is for a time of favor.
In Your abundant, faithful love, God,
answer me with Your sure salvation.(B)
14 Rescue me from the miry mud; don’t let me sink.
Let me be rescued from those who hate me
and from the deep waters.(C)
15 Don’t let the floodwaters sweep over me
or the deep swallow me up;
don’t let the Pit close its mouth over me.(D)

Psalm 69:16-18

16 Answer me, Lord,
for Your faithful love is good;
in keeping with Your great compassion,
turn to me.(A)
17 Don’t hide Your face from Your servant,
for I am in distress.
Answer me quickly!(B)
18 Draw near to me and redeem me;
ransom me because of my enemies.(C)

Jeremiah 20:1-6

Jeremiah Beaten by Pashhur

20 Pashhur the priest, the son of Immer(A) and chief official in the temple of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. So Pashhur had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put him in the stocks at the Upper Benjamin Gate in the Lord’s temple. The next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord does not call you Pashhur, but Magor-missabib,[a] for this is what the Lord says, ‘I am about to make you a terror to both yourself and those you love.(B) They will fall by the sword of their enemies before your very eyes. I will hand Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will deport them to Babylon and put them to the sword. I will give away all the wealth of this city, all its products(C) and valuables. Indeed, I will hand all the treasures of the kings of Judah over to their enemies. They will plunder them, seize them, and carry them off to Babylon. As for you, Pashhur, and all who live in your house, you will go into captivity. You will go to Babylon. There you will die, and there you will be buried, you and all your friends that you prophesied falsely(D) to.’”

Luke 11:53-12:3

53 When He left there,[a] the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose(A) Him fiercely and to cross-examine Him about many things; 54 they were lying in wait(B) for Him to trap Him in something He said.[b](C)

Beware of Religious Hypocrisy

12 In these circumstances,[c] a crowd of many thousands came together, so that they were trampling(D) on one another. He began to say to His disciples first:(E) “Be on your guard(F) against the yeast[d](G) of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.(H) There is nothing covered that won’t be uncovered,(I) nothing hidden that won’t be made known.(J) Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in an ear in private rooms(K) will be proclaimed on the housetops.(L)
