Psalm 40:1-8

God’s Faithfulness and Deliverance

For the music director. Of David. A psalm.[a]

40 I waited patiently for Yahweh,
And he inclined to me
and heard my cry for help.
And so he brought me up from the roaring pit,[b]
from the miry clay.
And he put my feet upon a rock;
he made my steps steady.
Then he put a new song in my mouth,
a praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and will trust Yahweh.
Blessed is the man who makes Yahweh his trust
and does not turn to the proud and to those who fall away to a lie.[c]
Many things, O Yahweh my God, you have done—
your wonderful deeds and your thoughts toward us.
There is none to compare with you.
If I tried to proclaim and tell of them,
they would be too numerous to count.
A sacrifice and offering you do not desire.
My ears you have opened.[d]
Burnt offering and sin offering you have not demanded.
Then I said, “Look, I come.
In the scroll of the book
it is written concerning me:
‘I delight to do your will, O my God,
and your law is deep within me.’”[e]

Leviticus 15:25-31

25 “‘And when a woman discharges a body fluid consisting of her blood for many days, but not at the time of her menstruation, or when she discharges in addition to[a] her menstruation, all the days of her unclean body fluid discharge she shall become unclean as in the days of her menstruation. 26 Any bed on which she lies during all the days of her body fluid discharge shall become for her as her bed of menstruation, and any object on which she sits becomes unclean as her menstruation’s uncleanness. 27 And any person who touches them becomes unclean, and he shall wash his garments, and he shall wash himself[b] with water, and he shall be unclean until the evening.

28 “‘And if she is clean from her body fluid discharge, then[c] she shall count for herself seven days, and afterward she becomes clean. 29 And on the eighth day she shall take for herself two turtledoves or two young doves,[d] and she shall bring them to the priest at the tent of assembly’s entrance. 30 And the priest shall sacrifice[e] the one as a sin offering and the other[f] as a burnt offering, and so the priest shall make atonement for her before[g] Yahweh from her unclean body fluid discharge.’

31 “And you shall keep the Israelites[h] separate from their uncleanness so that they might not die because of[i] their uncleanness by their making my tabernacle, which is in their midst, unclean.

Leviticus 22:1-9

Priests and Their Food

22 Then[a] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, “Tell[b] Aaron and his sons[c] that[d] they must deal respectfully with the Israelites[e] votive offerings, and they must not profane my holy name, which they are consecrating to me; I am Yahweh.

“Say to them, ‘Throughout your generations, any man from any of your offspring who comes near the votive offerings that the Israelites[f] consecrate to Yahweh with[g] his uncleanness on him, that person shall be cut off[h] from before me;[i] I am Yahweh.

“‘Anyone[j] from Aaron’s offspring, if[k] he is afflicted with a skin disease or a fluid discharge, shall not eat in the sanctuary until[l] he is clean; and the one who touches any unclean person or a man from whom an emission of semen goes out, or a man who touches any swarmer that is unclean for him or who touches a person who is unclean for him due to[m] whatever his uncleanness, a person who touches such a thing[n] shall be unclean until the evening, and he shall not eat from the votive offerings, except[o] when he washes[p] his body with water and the sun sets,[q] and he shall be clean; then[r] afterward he may eat from the votive offerings, because it is his food. He shall not eat a naturally dead body or[s] a mangled carcass, so that he becomes unclean[t] by it; I am Yahweh.

“‘And they shall keep my obligation, and they shall not incur guilt because of it, so that[u] they die through it, because they have profaned it; I am Yahweh who consecrates them.

2 Corinthians 6:14-7:2

Do Not Become Unevenly Yoked with Unbelievers

14 Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers, for what participation is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? 15 And what agreement does Christ have with Beliar? Or what share does a believer have with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said,

“I will live in[a] them and will walk about among them,
and I will be their God and they will be my people.”[b]
17 Therefore “come out from their midst
and be separate,” says the Lord,
“and do not touch what is unclean,[c]
and I will welcome you,[d]
18 and I will be a father to you,
and you will be sons and daughters to me,”[e]
says the all-powerful Lord.

Paul’s Joy at the Corinthians’ Repentance

Therefore since we[f] have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of body and spirit, accomplishing holiness in the fear of God. Make room for us in your hearts[g]. We have wronged no one, we have ruined no one, we have defrauded no one.
