Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The Voice of Yahweh
A Psalm of David.
29 (A)Ascribe to Yahweh, O [a]sons of the mighty,
Ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name;
Worship Yahweh (B)in the splendor of holiness.
3 The (C)voice of Yahweh is upon the waters;
The God of glory (D)thunders,
Yahweh is over [b](E)many waters.
4 The voice of Yahweh is (F)powerful,
The voice of Yahweh is full of splendor.
5 The voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars;
Indeed, Yahweh breaks in pieces (G)the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon (H)skip like a calf,
And (I)Sirion like a young wild ox.
7 The voice of Yahweh hews out [c]flames of fire.
8 The voice of Yahweh causes the wilderness to tremble;
Yahweh causes the wilderness of (J)Kadesh to tremble.
9 The voice of Yahweh makes (K)the deer to calve
And strips the forests bare;
And (L)in His temple everything says, “Glory!”
13 “The ostriches’ wings flap joyously
But are they the pinion and plumage of a [a]stork?
14 For she leaves her eggs to the earth
And warms them in the dust,
15 And she forgets that a foot may crush [b]them,
Or that a beast of the field may trample [c]them.
16 She treats her children (A)cruelly, as if they were not hers;
Though her labor be empty, she is without dread,
17 Because God has made her forget wisdom,
And has not given her a share of understanding.
18 When she raises herself up high,
She laughs at the horse and his rider.
19 “Do you give the horse his might?
Do you clothe his neck with a mane?
20 Do you make him (B)leap like the locust?
His splendid (C)snorting is terrible.
21 [d]He paws in the valley and rejoices in his power;
He (D)goes out to meet the weapons.
22 He laughs at dread and is not dismayed;
And he does not turn back from the sword.
23 The quiver rattles against him,
The flashing spear and javelin.
24 With shaking and rage he [e]races over the ground,
And he does not [f]stand still at the sound of the trumpet.
25 As often as the trumpet sounds he says, ‘Aha!’
And he scents the battle from afar,
And the thunder of the commanders and the shout of war.
4 Now there are (A)varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 6 And there are varieties of workings, but the same (B)God who works everything in everyone. 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit (C)for what is profitable. 8 For to one is given the word of (D)wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of (E)knowledge according to the same Spirit; 9 to someone else (F)faith [a]by the same Spirit, and to another (G)gifts of [b]healing [c]by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the workings of (H)miracles, and to another (I)prophecy, and to another the [d](J)distinguishing of spirits, to someone else various (K)kinds of tongues, and to another the [e](L)translation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, (M)distributing to each one individually just as He wills.
12 For even (N)as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, (O)so also is Christ. 13 For also [f](P)by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether (Q)Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to (R)drink of one Spirit.
