Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
8 Bless our God, O peoples,
And [a](A)make the sound of His praise heard,
9 Who [b](B)establishes us among the living
And (C)does not allow our feet to stumble.
10 For You have (D)tested us, O God;
You have (E)refined us as silver is refined.
11 You (F)brought us into the net;
You established an oppressive burden upon our loins.
12 You made men (G)ride over our heads;
We went through (H)fire and through water,
Yet You (I)brought us out into a place of abundance.
13 I shall (J)come into Your house with burnt offerings;
I shall (K)pay You my vows,
14 Which my lips uttered
And my mouth spoke when I was (L)in distress.
15 I shall (M)offer to You burnt offerings of fat beasts,
With the smoke of (N)rams;
I shall make an offering of [c]bulls with male goats. Selah.
16 (O)Come and hear, all who [d]fear God,
And I will (P)recount what He has done for my soul.
17 I called out to Him with my mouth,
And [e]He was (Q)exalted with my tongue.
18 If I [f](R)see wickedness in my heart,
The (S)Lord [g]will not [h]hear;
19 But certainly (T)God has heard;
He has given heed to the voice of my prayer.
20 (U)Blessed be God,
Who (V)has not turned away my prayer
Nor His lovingkindness from me.
5 Then Yahweh saw that the evil of man was great on the earth, and that (A)every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 (B)And Yahweh regretted that He had made man on the earth, and He was (C)grieved [a]in His heart. 7 And Yahweh said, “(D)I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the [b]sky; for (E)I regret that I have made them.” 8 But (F)Noah (G)found favor in the eyes of Yahweh.
The Generations of Noah
9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a (H)righteous man, [c](I)blameless among those in his generations; Noah (J)walked with God. 10 And Noah [d]became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 Now the earth was (K)corrupt before God, and the earth was (L)filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for (M)all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.
13 Then God said to Noah, “(N)The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. 14 Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms, and you shall [e]cover it inside and out with pitch. 15 Now this is how you shall make it: the length of the ark [f]300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits. 16 You shall make a [g]window for the ark, and complete it to one [h]cubit from [i]the top; and set the door of the ark in the side of it; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 As for Me, behold (O)I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall breathe its last. 18 But I will establish (P)My covenant with you; and (Q)you shall enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. 19 (R)And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 (S)Of the birds after their kind, and of the animals after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. 21 As for you, take for yourself some of all (T)food which is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be for food for you and for them.” 22 (U)Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did.
Paul Is Sent to Rome
27 Now when it was decided that (A)we (B)would sail for (C)Italy, they proceeded to deliver Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion of the Augustan [a](D)cohort named Julius. 2 And getting aboard an Adramyttian ship, which was about to sail to the regions along the coast of [b](E)Asia, we set sail accompanied by (F)Aristarchus, a (G)Macedonian of (H)Thessalonica. 3 The next day we put in at (I)Sidon, and Julius (J)treated Paul with consideration and (K)allowed him to go to his friends and receive care. 4 And from there we set sail and sailed under the shelter of (L)Cyprus because (M)the winds were against us. 5 And when we had sailed through the sea along the coast of (N)Cilicia and (O)Pamphylia, we landed at Myra in Lycia. 6 There the centurion found an (P)Alexandrian ship sailing for (Q)Italy, and he put us aboard it. 7 And when we had sailed slowly for a good many days, and with difficulty had arrived off Cnidus, (R)since the wind did not permit us to go farther, we sailed under the shelter of (S)Crete, off Salmone; 8 and with difficulty, we (T)sailed past it and came to a place called Fair Havens, near which was the city of Lasea.
9 And when considerable time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous, since even (U)the [c]Fast was already over, Paul began to advise them, 10 and said to them, “Men, I perceive that the voyage will certainly be with (V)damage and great loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.” 11 But the centurion was being more persuaded by the (W)pilot and the [d]captain of the ship than by what was being said by Paul. 12 And because the harbor was not suitable for wintering, the majority reached a decision to set sail from there, if somehow they could arrive at Phoenix, a harbor of (X)Crete facing southwest and northwest, to spend the winter there.
