Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Into Your Hand I Commit My Spirit
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
31 (A)In You, O Yahweh, I have taken refuge;
Let me never (B)be ashamed;
(C)In Your righteousness protect me.
2 (D)Incline Your ear to me, deliver me quickly;
Be to me a (E)rock of [a]strength,
A fortress to save me.
3 For You are my [b](F)high rock and my fortress;
For (G)Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me.
4 You will (H)bring me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,
For You are my (I)strength.
5 (J)Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
You have (K)ransomed me, O Yahweh, (L)God of truth.
20 Indeed, there was also a man who prophesied in the name of Yahweh, Uriah the son of Shemaiah from (A)Kiriath-jearim; and he prophesied against this city and against this land words similar to all those of Jeremiah. 21 And King Jehoiakim and all his mighty men and all the officials heard his words. So the (B)king sought to put him to death; but Uriah heard it, and he was afraid and (C)fled and went to Egypt. 22 Then King Jehoiakim sent men to Egypt: (D)Elnathan the son of Achbor and certain men with him went into Egypt. 23 And they brought Uriah out from Egypt and led him to King Jehoiakim, who (E)struck him down with a sword and cast his dead body into the [a]burial place of the [b]common people.
24 But the hand of (F)Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, so that he was (G)not given into the hands of the people to put him to death.
48 (A)The Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You are a (B)Samaritan and (C)have a demon?” 49 Jesus answered, “I do not (D)have a demon, but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. 50 But (E)I do not seek My glory; there is One who seeks and judges. 51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone (F)keeps My word he will never (G)see death—ever.” 52 (H)The Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You (I)have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets also; and You say, ‘If anyone (J)keeps My word, he will never (K)taste of death—ever.’ 53 Surely You (L)are not greater than our father Abraham who died? The prophets died too; whom do You make Yourself out to be?” 54 Jesus answered, “(M)If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; (N)it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God’; 55 and (O)you have not known Him, (P)but I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be (Q)a liar like you, (R)but I do know Him and (S)keep His word. 56 (T)Your father Abraham (U)rejoiced [a]to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” 57 (V)So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” 58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, (W)I am.” 59 Therefore they (X)picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus [b](Y)hid Himself and went out of the temple.
