Version
Psalm 116:1-4

Psalm 116

Thanks to God for Deliverance

I love the Lord because he has heard
my appeal for mercy.(A)
Because he has turned his ear to me,
I will call out to him as long as I live.(B)

The ropes of death were wrapped around me,
and the torments of Sheol overcame me;
I encountered trouble and sorrow.(C)
Then I called on the name of the Lord:
Lord, save me!” (D)

Psalm 116:12-19

12 How can I repay the Lord
for all the good he has done for me?(A)
13 I will take the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord.(B)
14 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.(C)

15 The death of his faithful ones
is valuable in the Lord’s sight.(D)
16 Lord, I am indeed your servant;
I am your servant, the son of your female servant.
You have loosened my bonds.(E)

17 I will offer you a thanksgiving sacrifice
and call on the name of the Lord.(F)
18 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,(G)
19 in the courts of the Lord’s house—
within you, Jerusalem.(H)
Hallelujah!

Isaiah 25:1-5

Salvation and Judgment on That Day

25 Lord, you are my God;(A)
I will exalt you. I will praise your name,
for you have accomplished wonders,
plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.
For you have turned the city into a pile of rocks,(B)
a fortified city, into ruins;
the fortress of barbarians(C) is no longer a city;
it will never be rebuilt.
Therefore, a strong people will honor you.
The cities of violent nations will fear you.
For you have been a stronghold for the poor person,
a stronghold for the needy(D) in his distress,
a refuge from storms and a shade from heat.(E)
When the breath of the violent
is like a storm against a wall,
like heat in a dry land,
you will subdue the uproar of barbarians.
As the shade of a cloud cools the heat of the day,
so he will silence the song of the violent.

1 Peter 1:8-12

Though you have not seen(A) him, you love him;(B) though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice(C) with inexpressible and glorious joy, because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets,(D) who prophesied about the grace that would come to you, searched and carefully investigated. 11 They inquired into what time or what circumstances the Spirit of Christ(E) within them was indicating when he testified in advance(F) to the sufferings of Christ(G) and the glories(H) that would follow.[a] 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you(I) by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven(J)—angels long to catch a glimpse of these things.
