Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
You Will Not Forsake My Soul
A [a]Mikhtam of David.
16 (A)Keep me, O God, for (B)I take refuge in You.
2 O my soul, you have said to Yahweh, “You are [b]my Lord;
I (C)have no good without You.”
3 As for the [c](D)saints who are in the earth,
They are the majestic ones (E)in whom is all my delight.
4 The [d](F)pains of those who have [e]bartered for another god will be multiplied;
I shall not pour out their drink offerings of (G)blood,
Nor will I (H)take their names upon my lips.
5 Yahweh is the (I)portion of my inheritance and my (J)cup;
You support my (K)lot.
6 The (L)lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my inheritance is (M)beautiful to me.
7 I will bless Yahweh who has (N)counseled me;
Indeed, my [f](O)mind instructs me in the night.
8 (P)I have (Q)set Yahweh continually before me;
Because He is (R)at my right hand, (S)I will not be shaken.
9 Therefore (T)my heart is glad and (U)my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will (V)dwell securely.
10 For You (W)will not forsake my soul to Sheol;
You will not (X)give Your [g]Holy One over to see [h]corruption.
11 You will make known to me (Y)the path of life;
In (Z)Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are (AA)pleasures forever.
6 Put me like a [a]seal over your heart,
Like a (A)seal on your arm.
For love is as strong as death,
[b](B)Jealousy is as severe as Sheol;
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
[c]The very flame of [d]Yah.
7 Many waters cannot quench love,
Nor will rivers overflow it;
(C)If a man were to give all the riches of his house for love,
It would be utterly despised.”
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
11 (A)But Mary was standing outside the tomb crying; and so, as she was crying, she (B)stooped to look into the tomb; 12 and she *saw (C)two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been lying. 13 And they *said to her, “(D)Woman, why are you crying?” She *said to them, “Because (E)they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” 14 When she had said this, she turned around and *(F)saw Jesus standing there, and (G)did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus *said to her, “(H)Woman, why are you crying? Whom are you seeking?” Thinking Him to be the gardener, she *said to Him, “Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” 16 Jesus *said to her, “Mary!” She turned and *said to Him (I)in [a]Hebrew, “(J)Rabboni!” (which means, Teacher). 17 Jesus *said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to (K)My brothers and say to them, ‘I (L)ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’” 18 (M)Mary Magdalene *came, (N)announcing to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and that He had said these things to her.
Jesus Appears to His Disciples
19 So while it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and while the doors were shut where the disciples were, for (O)fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and *said to them, “[b](P)Peace be with you.” 20 And when He had said this, (Q)He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then (R)rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
