Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Psalm 16
Confidence in the Lord
A Miktam of David.(A)
1 Protect me, God, for I take refuge in you.(B)
2 I[a] said to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
I have nothing good besides you.”[b](C)
3 As for the holy people who are in the land,(D)
they are the noble ones.
All my delight is in them.
4 The sorrows of those who take another god
for themselves will multiply;
I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood,
and I will not speak their names with my lips.(E)
5 Lord, you are my portion[c]
and my cup of blessing;
you hold my future.(F)
6 The boundary lines have fallen for me
in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.(G)
7 I will bless the Lord who counsels me(H)—
even at night when my thoughts trouble me.[d](I)
8 I always let the Lord guide me.[e]
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.(J)
9 Therefore my heart is glad
and my whole being rejoices;
my body also rests securely.(K)
10 For you will not abandon me to Sheol;(L)
you will not allow your faithful one to see decay.(M)
11 You reveal the path of life to me;
in your presence is abundant joy;(N)
at your right hand are eternal pleasures.(O)

9 What makes the one you love better than another,
most beautiful of women?(A)
What makes him better than another,
that you would give us this charge?

11 His head is purest gold.
His hair is wavy[b](D)
and black as a raven.
12 His eyes are like doves(E)
beside flowing streams,
washed in milk
and set like jewels.[c]
13 His cheeks(F) are like beds of spice,
mounds of[d] perfume.
His lips are lilies,
dripping with flowing myrrh.(G)
14 His arms[e] are rods of gold
set[f] with beryl.(H)
His body[g] is an ivory panel
covered with lapis lazuli.(I)
15 His legs are alabaster pillars
set on pedestals of pure gold.
His presence is like Lebanon,(J)
as majestic as the cedars.(K)
16 His mouth is sweetness.
He is absolutely desirable.(L)
This is my love, and this is my friend,
young women of Jerusalem.

6 Where has your love gone,
most beautiful of women?
Which way has he[h] turned?
We will seek him with you.

Resurrection Essential to the Gospel
15 Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel I preached to you, which you received, on which you have taken your stand(A) 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold to the message I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.(B) 3 For I passed on to you(C) as most important what I also received: that Christ died(D) for our sins according to the Scriptures,(E) 4 that he was buried,(F) that he was raised on the third day(G) according to the Scriptures,(H) 5 and that he appeared to Cephas,(I) then to the Twelve.(J) 6 Then he appeared to over five hundred brothers and sisters at one time;(K) most of them are still alive, but some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James,(L) then to all the apostles.(M) 8 Last of all, as to one born at the wrong time,[a](N) he also appeared to me.(O)
9 For I am the least of the apostles,(P) not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted(Q) the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.(R) 11 Whether, then, it is I or they, so we proclaim and so you have believed.
