Psalm 31:9-16

Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing; my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

11 I am a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbors, and a fear to mine acquaintances; they that see me in the streets flee from me.

12 I am forgotten as a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel.

13 For I have heard the slander of many; fear was on every side; while they took counsel together against me, they schemed to take away my life.

14 But I have trusted in Thee, O Lord; I said, “Thou art my God.”

15 My times are in Thy hand; deliver me from the hand of mine enemies and from them that persecute me.

16 Make Thy face to shine upon Thy servant; save me for Thy mercies’ sake.

1 Samuel 16:11-13

11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, “Are here all thy children?” And he said, “There remaineth yet the youngest, and behold, he keepeth the sheep.” And Samuel said unto Jesse, “Send and fetch him, for we will not sit down till he come hither.”

12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and altogether of a beautiful countenance and goodly to look upon. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.”

13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brethren; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

Philippians 1:1-11

Paul and Timothy, the servants of Jesus Christ, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

Grace be unto you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

always in my every prayer for you all making request with joy,

for your fellowship in the Gospel from the first day until now,

being confident of this very thing, that He who hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the Day of Jesus Christ.

It is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as, both in my bonds and in the defense and confirmation of the Gospel, ye are all partakers of my grace.

For God is my record how greatly I long for you all in the compassion of Jesus Christ.

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment,

10 that ye may approve things that are excellent, and that ye may be sincere and without offense until the Day of Christ,

11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
