Psalm 130

Hope for the Redemption of Yahweh

A song of ascents.[a]

130 Out of the depths I call to you, O Yahweh.
“O Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications.
If you, O Yah,[b] should keep track of[c] iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
But with you is forgiveness,
so that you may be feared.”
I await Yahweh; my soul awaits,
and I wait[d] for his word.
My soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning.
Yes, more than watchmen for the morning.
O Israel, wait[e] for Yahweh.
For with Yahweh there is loyal love,
and with him there is abundant redemption.
And he will redeem Israel
from all its iniquities.

Ezekiel 36:8-15

“‘“But you, mountains of Israel, your branch you will shoot, and your fruit you will carry[a] for my people Israel, for they are soon to come. For look! I am for you, and I will turn you, and you will be tilled, and you will be planted. 10 And I will cause your population[b] to increase for you, all of the house of Israel, all of it, and the towns will be inhabited, and the ruins will be built. 11 And I will cause your population[c] to increase for you, and domestic animals, even they will be numerous, and they will be fruitful, and I will cause you to be inhabited like your ancient times,[d] and I will do good things more than in your former times, and you will know that I am Yahweh. 12 And I will send over you my people Israel, and they will take possession of you, and you will be for them as an inheritance, and you will no longer bereave them of their children.”[e]

13 “‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh, because they are saying to you, “You are an eater of humans,[f] and you are one who makes childless[g] your people.”[h] 14 Therefore humans[i] you will not eat any longer, and your nation you will not make childless[j] any longer,” declares[k] the Lord Yahweh. 15 “And I will not let you hear any longer the insult of the nations, and the disgrace of the peoples you will not bear any longer; you yourself will not cause your nation to stumble,” declares[l] the Lord Yahweh.’”

Luke 24:44-53

Jesus Commissions His Disciples

44 And he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I[a] was still with you, that everything that is written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and would rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and the forgiveness[b] of sins would be proclaimed in his name to all the nations,[c] beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending out[d] what was promised by my Father upon you, but you stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

The Ascension

50 And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he blessed them. 51 And it happened that while he was blessing them, he parted from them and was taken up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped him and[e] returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they were continually[f] in the temple courts[g] praising God.
