Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Psalm 128
Blessings for Those Who Fear God
A song of ascents.
1 How happy is everyone who fears the Lord,
who walks in His ways!(A)
2 You will surely eat
what your hands have worked for.(B)
You will be happy,
and it will go well for you.(C)
3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house,
your sons, like young olive trees
around your table.(D)
4 In this very way
the man who fears the Lord
will be blessed.(E)
5 May the Lord bless you from Zion,
so that you will see the prosperity of Jerusalem
all the days of your life(F)
6 and will see your children’s children!
Peace be with Israel.(G)
22 “Therefore, say to the house of Israel: This is what the Lord God says: It is not for your sake that I will act,(A) house of Israel, but for My holy name,(B) which you profaned among the nations where you went. 23 I will honor the holiness of My great name, which has been profaned among the nations—the name you have profaned among them. The nations will know that I am Yahweh”—the declaration of the Lord God—“when I demonstrate My holiness through you in their sight.(C)
24 “For I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries, and will bring you into your own land.(D) 25 I will also sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean.(E) I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols.(F) 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you;(G) I will remove your heart of stone[a] and give you a heart of flesh.(H) 27 I will place My Spirit within you(I) and cause you to follow My statutes and carefully observe My ordinances.(J) 28 Then you will live in the land that I gave your fathers;(K) you will be My people, and I will be your God.(L) 29 I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will summon the grain and make it plentiful, and will not bring famine on you.(M) 30 I will also make the fruit of the trees and the produce of the field plentiful, so that you will no longer experience reproach among the nations on account of famine.
31 “Then you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good,(N) and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and detestable practices.(O) 32 It is not for your sake that I will act”(P)—the declaration of the Lord God—“let this be known to you. Be ashamed and humiliated because of your ways, house of Israel!
[53 So each one went to his house. 8 1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.(A)
An Adulteress Forgiven
2 At dawn He went to the temple complex(B) again, and all the people were coming to Him.(C) He sat down(D) and began to teach them.
3 Then the scribes and the Pharisees(E) brought a woman caught in adultery,(F) making her stand in the center. 4 “Teacher,” they said to Him, “this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery.(G) 5 In the law Moses(H) commanded us to stone such women.(I) So what do You say?” 6 They asked this to trap Him,(J) in order that they might have evidence to accuse Him.
Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with His finger. 7 When they persisted in questioning Him, He stood up and said to them, “The one without sin(K) among you(L) should be the first to throw a stone at her.”(M)
8 Then He stooped down again and continued writing on the ground. 9 When they heard this, they left one by one, starting with the older men. Only He was left, with the woman in the center. 10 When Jesus stood up, He said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11 “No one, Lord,”[a] she answered.
“Neither do I condemn you,”(N) said Jesus. “Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.”][b]
