15 ¶ Then the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden, that he might [a]dress it, and keep it.
16 And the Lord God [b]commanded the man, saying, [c]Thou shalt eat freely of every tree of the garden,
17 But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for [d]in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt die the [e]death.
3 1 The woman seduced by the serpent, 6 enticeth her husband to sin. 8 They both flee from God. 14 They three are punished. 15 Christ is promised. 19 Man is dust. 22 Man is cast out of Paradise.
1 Now the serpent was more [a]subtle than any beast of the field, which the Lord God had made: and he [b]said to the woman, Yea, hath God indeed said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden.
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, [c]lest ye die.
4 Then the (A)serpent said to the woman, Ye shall not [d][e]die at all,
5 But God doth know that when ye shall eat thereof, your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, [f]knowing good and evil.
6 So the woman (seeing that the tree was good for meat, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired, to get knowledge) took of the fruit thereof, and did (B)eat, and gave also to her husband with her, and he [g]did eat.
7 Then the eyes of them both were opened, and they [h]knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig tree leaves together, and made themselves [i]breeches.
32 1 David punished with grievous sickness for his sins, counteth them blessed to whom God doth not impute their transgressions. 5 And after that he had confessed his sins, and obtained pardon, 6 he exhorteth the wicked men to live godly, 11 and the good to rejoice.
A Psalm of David to give [a]instruction.
1 Blessed is he whose wickedness is [b]forgiven, and whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man, unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
3 When I held my [c]tongue, my bones consumed, or when I [d]roared all the day,
4 (For thine hand is heavy upon me day and night: and my moisture is turned into the drought of Summer. Selah.)
5 Then I [e]acknowledged my sin unto thee, neither hid I mine iniquity: for I thought, I will confess against myself my wickedness unto the Lord, and thou forgavest the punishment of my sin. Selah.
6 Therefore shall everyone that is godly, make his prayer unto thee in a [f]time, when thou mayest be found: surely in the flood of great waters [g]they shall not come near him.
7 Thou art my secret place: thou preservest me from trouble: thou compassest me about with joyful deliverance. Selah.
8 I will [h]instruct thee, and teach thee in the way that thou shalt go, and I will guide thee with mine eye.
9 Be ye not like an horse, or like a mule which understand not: whose [i]mouths thou dost bind with bit and bridle, lest they come near thee.
10 Many sorrows shall come to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him.
11 Be glad ye righteous, and [j]rejoice in the Lord, and be joyful all ye, that are upright in heart.
12 [a]Wherefore, as by [b]one man [c]sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death went over all men: [d]in whom all men have sinned.
13 [e]For unto the [f]time of the Law was sin in the world, but sin is not [g]imputed, while there is no law.
14 [h]But death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over [i]them also that sinned not after the like [j]manner of the transgression of Adam, [k]which was the figure of him that was to come.
15 [l]But yet the gift is not so as is the offense: for if through the offense of [m]that one, many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16 [n]Neither is the gift so, as that which entered in by one that sinned: for the fault came of one offense unto condemnation: but the gift is of many offenses to [o]justification.
17 [p]For if by the offense of one, death reigned through one, much more shall they which receive that abundance of grace, and of that gift of that righteousness, [q]reign in life through one, that is, Jesus Christ.
18 [r]Likewise then, as by the offense of one, the fault came on all men to condemnation, so by the justifying of one, the benefit abounded toward all men to the [s]justification of life.
19 [t]For as by one man’s [u]disobedience [v]many were made sinners, so by that obedience of that one, shall many also be made righteous.
4 1 Christ is tempted. 4 He vanquisheth the devil with Scripture. 11 The Angels minister unto him. 12 He preacheth repentance, and that himself is come. 18 The calling of Peter, Andrew. 21 James and John. 24 He preacheth the Gospel, and healeth the diseased.
1 Then (A)was [a]Jesus led aside of the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted [b]forty days, and forty nights, he was afterward hungry.
3 Then came to him the tempter, and said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answering, said, It is written, (B)Man shall not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil took him up into the holy city, and set him on a [c]pinnacle of the Temple.
6 And said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down, for it is written, (C)that he will give his Angels charge over thee, and with their hands they shall lift thee up, lest at any time thou shouldest dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, (D)Thou shalt not [d]tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again the devil took him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them,
9 And said to him, All these will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down, and worship me.
10 Then said Jesus unto him, Avoid Satan: for it is written, (E)Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 (F)Then the devil left him: and behold, the Angels came, and ministered unto him.
