Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
Version
Exodus 24:12-18

12 The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and stay there so that I may give you the stone tablets(A) with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.”

13 So Moses arose with his assistant Joshua and went up the mountain of God.(B) 14 He told the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. Aaron and Hur are here with you. Whoever has a dispute should go to them.” 15 When Moses went up the mountain, the cloud(C) covered it. 16 The glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day He called to Moses from the cloud.(D) 17 The appearance of the Lord’s glory to the Israelites was like a consuming fire(E) on the mountaintop. 18 Moses entered the cloud as he went up the mountain, and he remained on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights.(F)

Psalm 2

Psalm 2

Coronation of the Son

Why(A) do the nations rebel[a](B)
and the peoples plot in vain?(C)
The kings of the earth take their stand,(D)
and the rulers conspire together
against the Lord and His Anointed One:[b](E)
“Let us tear off their chains
and free ourselves from their restraints.”[c](F)

The One enthroned[d] in heaven laughs;
the Lord ridicules them.(G)
Then He speaks to them in His anger
and terrifies them in His wrath:(H)
“I have consecrated My King[e]
on Zion, My holy mountain.”(I)

I will declare the Lord’s decree:
He said to Me, “You are My Son;[f]
today I have become Your[g] Father.(J)
Ask of Me,
and I will make the nations Your[h] inheritance
and the ends of the earth Your[i] possession.(K)
You will break[j] them with a rod of iron;
You[k] will shatter them like pottery.”[l](L)

10 So now, kings, be wise;
receive instruction, you judges of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with reverential awe
and rejoice with trembling.(M)
12 Pay homage to[m] the Son or He[n] will be angry
and you will perish in your rebellion,[o](N)
for His[p] anger may ignite at any moment.(O)
All those who take refuge in Him[q] are happy.(P)

Psalm 99

Psalm 99

The King Is Holy

The Lord reigns! Let the peoples tremble.
He is enthroned above the cherubim.(A)
Let the earth quake.(B)
Yahweh is great in Zion;
He is exalted above all the peoples.(C)
Let them praise Your great
and awe-inspiring name.(D)
He is holy.(E)

The mighty King loves justice.
You have established fairness;
You have administered justice
and righteousness in Jacob.(F)
Exalt the Lord our God;
bow in worship at His footstool.(G)
He is holy.(H)

Moses and Aaron were among His priests;(I)
Samuel also was among those calling on His name.
They called to Yahweh and He answered them.(J)
He spoke to them in a pillar of cloud;(K)
they kept His decrees and the statutes He gave them.
Lord our God, You answered them.
You were a forgiving God to them,(L)
an avenger of their sinful actions.(M)

Exalt the Lord our God;
bow in worship at His holy mountain,
for the Lord our God is holy.(N)

2 Peter 1:16-21

The Trustworthy Prophetic Word

16 For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ;(A) instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.(B) 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, a voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory:

This is My beloved Son.[a]
I take delight in Him![b](C)

18 And we heard this voice when it came from heaven while we were with Him on the holy mountain.(D) 19 So we have the prophetic word strongly confirmed. You will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dismal place,(E) until the day dawns(F) and the morning star(G) rises in your hearts. 20 First of all, you should know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation, 21 because no prophecy ever came by the will of man;(H) instead, men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.(I)

Matthew 17:1-9

The Transfiguration

17 After six days(A) Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John and led them up on a high mountain by themselves.(B) He was transformed[a] in front of them, and His face shone like the sun. Even His clothes became as white as the light.(C) Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it’s good for us to be here! If You want, I will make[b] three tabernacles here: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”(D)

While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud covered[c] them, and a voice from the cloud said:

This is My beloved Son.
I take delight in Him.
Listen to Him!(E)

When the disciples(F) heard it, they fell facedown and were terrified.

Then Jesus came up, touched them, and said, “Get up; don’t be afraid.”(G) When they looked up they saw no one except Him[d]—Jesus alone. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them,(H) “Don’t tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man is raised[e] from the dead.”
