112 Blessed is the man who fears the LORD and delights greatly in His Commandments.

² His seed shall be mighty upon Earth. The generation of the righteous shall be blessed.

³ Riches and treasures shall be in his house and his righteousness endures forever.

⁴ To the righteous arises light in darkness. He is merciful and full of compassion, and righteous.

⁵ A good man is merciful and lends. He will measure his affairs by judgment.

⁶ Surely, he shall never be moved. The righteous shall be held in everlasting remembrance.

⁷ He will not be afraid of evil tidings. His heart is fixed, believing in the LORD.

⁸ His heart is established. He will not fear, until he sees his desire upon his enemies.

⁹ He has distributed, given to the poor. His righteousness remains forever. His horn shall be exalted with glory.

¹⁰ The wicked shall see it and be angry. He shall gnash with his teeth and melt away. The desire of the wicked shall perish. Praise the LORD

¹³ Therefore, the LORD said, “Because this people comes near to Me with their mouth, and honors Me with their lips, but has removed their heart far from Me, and their fear toward Me was taught by the precept of men,

¹⁴ “therefore behold, I will again do a marvelous work in this people, a marvelous work and a wonder. For the wisdom of their wise men shall perish and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hidden.

¹⁵ “Woe to those who seek deeply to hide counsel from the LORD. For their works are in darkness. And they say, ‘Who sees us?’ and, ‘Who knows us?’

¹⁶ “You pervert things. Shall the potter be thought the same as the clay? For shall the work say of him who made it, ‘He did not make me,’ or the thing formed say of him who fashioned it, ‘He has no understanding’?

7 Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came to Him from Jerusalem.

² And when they saw some of His disciples eat with common hands (that is to say, unwashed), they complained.

³ (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, do not eat unless they have washed their hands, holding to the traditions of the elders.

⁴ And when they come from the market, they do not eat until they have washed. And there are many other things there which they have taken upon themselves to observe - such as the washing of cups and pots and of metal vessels and of meal mats).

⁵ Then the Pharisees and Scribes asked Jesus, “Why do not Your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with unwashed hands?”

⁶ Then He answered and said to them, “Surely Isaiah has prophesied well of you, hypocrites. As it is written, ‘This people honors Me with lips, but their heart is far away from Me.

⁷ ‘But they worship Me in vain, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.’

⁸ For you lay the Commandments of God aside, and observe the tradition of men, such as the washing of pots, and of cups. And there are many other such things that you do.”
