112 Praise ye the Lord! Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in His commandments.

² His seed shall be mighty upon the earth; the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

³ Wealth and riches shall be in his house, and his righteousness endureth for ever.

⁴ Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness; he is gracious and full of compassion and righteous.

⁵ A good man showeth favor and lendeth; he will guide his affairs with discretion.

⁶ Surely he shall not be moved forever; the righteous shall be held in everlasting remembrance.

⁷ He shall not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.

⁸ His heart is established; he shall not be afraid until he sees his desires upon his enemies.

⁹ He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

¹⁰ The wicked shall see it and be grieved, he shall gnash with his teeth and melt away; the desire of the wicked shall perish.

¹³ Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as this people draw near Me with their mouth and with their lips do honor Me, but have removed their heart far from Me, and their fear toward Me is taught by the precept of men,

¹⁴ therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder; for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.”

¹⁵ Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord and their works are in the dark, and they say, “Who seeth us?” and, “Who knoweth us?”

¹⁶ Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay; for shall the work say of him that made it, “He made me not”? Or shall the thing formed say of him that formed it, “He had no understanding”?

7 Then came together unto Him the Pharisees and certain of the scribes, who came from Jerusalem.

² And when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled (that is to say, unwashed) hands, they found fault.

³ For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat, unless they wash their hands oft, holding to the tradition of the elders.

⁴ And when they come from the market, they eat not unless they wash; and there are many other customs which they have received and hold to, as the washing of cups, pots, brazen vessels and of tables.

⁵ Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, “Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?”

⁶ He answered and said unto them, “Well hath Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honoreth Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.

⁷ Therefore, in vain do they worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.’

⁸ For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold to the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups, and many other like things ye do.”
