9 Yet, the gloom shall not be as the affliction was at first, when He lightly touched the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, nor afterward when he was more grievous by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the Gentiles.

² The people who walked in darkness have seen a great Light. Those who dwelled in the land of the shadow of death, upon them has the Light shined.

³ You have multiplied the nation, not increased joy. Men rejoice when they divide a spoil.

⁴ For You have broken the yoke of their burden, and the staff of their shoulder, and the rod of their oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

27 The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

⁴ One thing have I desired of the LORD, that I will require: That I may dwell in the House of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to visit His Temple.

⁵ For in the time of trouble, He shall hide me in His Tabernacle. In the secret place of His pavilion, He shall hide me and set me up upon a rock.

⁶ And now, He shall lift up my head above my enemies all around me. Therefore, I will offer sacrifices of joy in His Tabernacle. I will sing and praise the LORD.

⁷ Hear my voice, O LORD, when I cry. Have mercy, also, upon me and hear me.

⁸ When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart answered You, “O LORD, I will seek Your face.”

⁹ Do not hide, therefore, Your face from me, nor cast Your servant away in displeasure. You have been my succor; do not leave me or forsake me, O God of my salvation.

¹⁰ Now I urge you, brothers, by the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak one thing, and that there be no dissensions among you. But be joined together in one mind, and in one judgment.

¹¹ For it has been declared to me, my brothers, by those who are of the house of Chloe, that there is strife among you.

¹² Now I say this: that each one of you says, “I am Paul’s”, and “I am Apollos’s”, and “I am Cephas’s” and “I am Christ’s”.

¹³ Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized into the name of Paul?

¹⁴ I thank God that I baptized none of you, but rather Crispus and Gaius,

¹⁵ lest anyone should say that I had baptized into my own name.

¹⁶ Now I also baptized the household of Stephanas. But I do not know whether I baptized any other besides that.

¹⁷ For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the Gospel (not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect).

¹⁸ For the preaching of the cross is to those who perish, foolishness. But to us who are saved, it is the power of God.

¹² And when Jesus had heard that John was committed to prison, he returned into Galilee.

¹³ And leaving Nazareth, He went and dwelt in Capernaum, which is near the sea, on the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali.

¹⁴ So that that which was spoken by Isaiah the Prophet might be fulfilled, which says,

¹⁵ “The land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali – by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan - Galilee of the Gentiles:

¹⁶ The people who sat in darkness, saw great light. And to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light is risen up.”

¹⁷ From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, “Repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”

¹⁸ And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers - Simon (who was called Peter) and Andrew his brother - casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen.)

¹⁹ And He said to them, “Follow Me. And I will make you fishers of men.”

²⁰ And immediately, having left the nets, they followed Him.

²¹ And when He had gone forth from there, He saw two other brothers - James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother - in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And He called them.

²² And without hesitation, they (leaving the ship and their father) followed Him.

²³ So Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
