49 “Hear Me, O isles! And listen, you people from afar! The LORD has called Me from the womb and made mention of My Name from My mother’s belly.

² “And He has made My Mouth like a sharp sword. Under the shadow of His Hand has He hidden Me and made Me a chosen Shaft, hidden Me in His quiver,

³ “and said to Me, ‘You are My Servant, Israel, for I will be glorious in You.’

⁴ “And I said, ‘I have labored in vain. I have spent My strength in vain and for nothing. But My judgment is with the LORD, and My work with My God.’

⁵ “‘And now,’ says the LORD (Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, so that I may bring Jacob back to him, though Israel is not gathered. I shall still be glorious in the eyes of the LORD. And My God shall be My strength),

⁶ “indeed He said, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the desolations of Israel. I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, so that You may be My Salvation to the ends of the world.’”

⁷ Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, His Holy One, to Him Who is despised in soul, to a nation that is abhorred, to a Servant of rulers: “Kings shall see and arise. And princes shall worship because of the LORD, Who is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, Who has chosen You.”

40 I waited patiently for the LORD, and He inclined to me and heard my cry.

² Also, He brought me out of the horrible pit—out of the miry clay—and set my feet upon the rock and ordered my goings.

³ And He has put in my mouth a new song of praise to our God. Many shall see it and fear and shall trust in the LORD.

⁴ Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust and does not regard the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

⁵ You have made many, O LORD my God, Your wonderful works; so that no one can count to You, in order, Your thoughts toward us. I would declare and speak of them, but they are more than I am able to express.

⁶ Sacrifice and offering You did not desire (my ears You have prepared). Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required.

⁷ Then I said, “Lo, I come. In the roll of the Book it is written of me.

⁸ “I desired to do Your good will, O my God. Indeed, Your Law is within my heart.”

⁹ I have declared righteousness in the great congregation. Lo, I will not refrain my lips. O LORD, You know.

¹⁰ I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart. I have declared Your truth and Your salvation. I have not concealed Your mercy and Your truth from the great Congregation.

¹¹ Do not withdraw Your tender mercy from me, O LORD. Let Your mercy and Your truth always preserve me.

1 Paul, a called Apostle of Jesus Christ, through the will of God, and brother Sosthenes,

² to the Church of God, which is at Corinth; to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus (Saints by calling) with all that call on the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, in every place, both theirs and ours:

³ Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

⁴ I thank my God always on your behalf for the grace of God which is given you in Jesus Christ.

⁵ That in all things you are made rich in Him in every expression and in all knowledge.

⁶ As the testimony of Jesus Christ has been confirmed in you.

⁷ So that you are not deficient in any gift, awaiting the unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ,

⁸ Who shall also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁹ God is faithful; by Whom you are called to the fellowship of his son Jesus Christ our Lord.

²⁹ The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world!

³⁰ “This is He of Whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man Who is in front of me. For He was before me.

³¹ And I knew Him not. But that He may be declared to Israel, I have come, baptizing with water.”

³² So John bore witness, saying, “I have seen the Spirit come down from Heaven like a dove, and it stayed upon Him.

³³ “And I knew Him not. But He who sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, ‘Upon Whom you shall see the Spirit coming down and staying, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Ghost.’

³⁴ “And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

³⁵ The next day, John stood again, along with two of his disciples.

³⁶ And he saw Jesus walking by, and said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”

³⁷ And the two disciples heard him speak and followed Jesus.

³⁸ Then Jesus turned around, and saw them follow, and said to them, “What do you seek?” And they said to Him, “Rabbi, (which is to say by interpretation, ‘Master’) where are You staying?”

³⁹ He said to them, “Come, and see.” They came and saw where He dwelt and stayed with Him that day. For it was about the tenth hour.

⁴⁰ Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who had heard John and followed him.

⁴¹ He found his brother Simon first, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah!” (Who is by interpretation, the Christ)

⁴² And he brought him to Jesus. And Jesus looked at him, and said, “You are Simon, the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas.” (which is by interpretation, Rock)
