Psalm 89:5-37

Lord, the heavens praise Your wonders(A)
Your faithfulness also—
in the assembly of the holy ones.(B)
For who in the skies can compare with the Lord?
Who among the heavenly beings[a] is like the Lord?(C)
God is greatly feared in the council of the holy ones,
more awe-inspiring than[b] all who surround Him.(D)
Lord God of Hosts,
who is strong like You, Lord?(E)
Your faithfulness surrounds You.
You rule the raging sea;
when its waves surge, You still them.(F)
10 You crushed Rahab like one who is slain;(G)
You scattered Your enemies with Your powerful arm.(H)
11 The heavens are Yours; the earth also is Yours.
The world and everything in it—You founded them.(I)
12 North and south—You created them.(J)
Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at Your name.(K)
13 You have a mighty arm;
Your hand is powerful;
Your right hand is lifted high.(L)
14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation
of Your throne;(M)
faithful love and truth go before You.(N)
15 Happy are the people who know the joyful shout;(O)
Yahweh, they walk in the light of Your presence.(P)
16 They rejoice in Your name all day long,
and they are exalted by Your righteousness.(Q)
17 For You are their magnificent strength;(R)
by Your favor our horn is exalted.(S)
18 Surely our shield[c] belongs to the Lord,
our king to the Holy One of Israel.(T)

19 You once spoke in a vision to Your loyal ones
and said: “I have granted help to a warrior;
I have exalted one chosen[d] from the people.(U)
20 I have found David My servant;
I have anointed him with My sacred oil.(V)
21 My hand will always be with him,
and My arm will strengthen him.(W)
22 The enemy will not afflict[e] him;
no wicked man will oppress him.(X)
23 I will crush his foes before him
and strike those who hate him.(Y)
24 My faithfulness and love will be with him,
and through My name
his horn will be exalted.(Z)
25 I will extend his power to the sea
and his right hand to the rivers.(AA)
26 He will call to Me, ‘You are my Father,(AB)
my God, the rock of my salvation.’(AC)
27 I will also make him My firstborn,
greatest of the kings of the earth.(AD)
28 I will always preserve My faithful love for him,
and My covenant with him will endure.(AE)
29 I will establish his line forever,
his throne as long as heaven lasts.[f](AF)
30 If his sons forsake My instruction
and do not live by My ordinances,(AG)
31 if they dishonor My statutes
and do not keep My commands,(AH)
32 then I will call their rebellion
to account with the rod,
their sin with blows.(AI)
33 But I will not withdraw
My faithful love from him
or betray My faithfulness.(AJ)
34 I will not violate My covenant
or change what My lips have said.(AK)
35 Once and for all
I have sworn an oath by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.(AL)
36 His offspring will continue forever,
his throne like the sun before Me,(AM)
37 like the moon, established forever,
a faithful witness in the sky.”(AN)Selah

Isaiah 51:1-16

Salvation for Zion

51 Listen to Me, you who pursue righteousness,
you who seek the Lord:
Look to the rock from which you were cut,
and to the quarry from which you were dug.
Look to Abraham your father,
and to Sarah who gave birth to you in pain.
When I called him, he was only one;
I blessed him and made him many.(A)
For the Lord will comfort Zion;(B)
He will comfort all her waste places,
and He will make her wilderness like Eden,(C)
and her desert like the garden of the Lord.(D)
Joy and gladness will be found in her,
thanksgiving and melodious song.

Pay attention to Me, My people,
and listen to Me, My nation;
for instruction will come from Me,
and My justice for a light to the nations.(E)
I will bring it about quickly.
My righteousness is near,(F)
My salvation appears,
and My arms will bring justice to the nations.(G)
The coastlands[a] will put their hope in Me,
and they will look to My strength.[b]
Look up to the heavens,
and look at the earth beneath;
for the heavens will vanish like smoke,
the earth will wear out like a garment,
and its inhabitants will die like gnats.[c](H)
But My salvation will last forever,(I)
and My righteousness will never be shattered.

Listen to Me, you who know righteousness,
the people in whose heart is My instruction:(J)
do not fear disgrace by men,
and do not be shattered by their taunts.
For the moth will devour them like a garment,(K)
and the worm will eat them like wool.(L)
But My righteousness will last forever,
and My salvation for all generations.

Wake up, wake up!
Put on the strength of the Lord’s power.
Wake up as in days past,
as in generations of long ago.
Wasn’t it You who hacked Rahab to pieces,(M)
who pierced the sea monster?(N)
10 Wasn’t it You who dried up the sea,(O)
the waters of the great deep,
who made the sea-bed into a road
for the redeemed to pass over?(P)
11 And the redeemed of the Lord will return(Q)
and come to Zion with singing,
crowned with unending joy.
Joy and gladness will overtake them,
and sorrow and sighing will flee.

12 I—I am the One who comforts you.
Who are you that you should fear man who dies,(R)
or a son of man who is given up like grass?(S)
13 But you have forgotten the Lord, your Maker,
who stretched out the heavens
and laid the foundations of the earth.(T)
You are in constant dread all day long
because of the fury of the oppressor,
who has set himself to destroy.
But where is the fury of the oppressor?(U)
14 The prisoner[d] is soon to be set free;
he will not die and go to the Pit,
and his food will not be lacking.
15 For I am Yahweh your God
who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar(V)
His name is Yahweh of Hosts.
16 I have put My words in your mouth,(W)
and covered you in the shadow of My hand,(X)
in order to plant[e] the heavens,
to found the earth,
and to say to Zion, “You are My people.”

Matthew 12:15-21

The Servant of the Lord

15 When Jesus became aware of this, He withdrew from there. Huge crowds[a] followed Him, and He healed them all.(A) 16 He warned them not to make Him known,(B) 17 so that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:

18 Here is My Servant whom I have chosen,
My beloved in whom My soul delights;
I will put My Spirit on Him,
and He will proclaim justice to the nations.(C)
19 He will not argue or shout,
and no one will hear His voice in the streets.
20 He will not break a bruised reed,
and He will not put out a smoldering wick,
until He has led justice to victory.[b]
21 The nations will put their hope in His name.(D)[c]
