72 Give the king Thy judgments, O God, and Thy righteousness unto the king’s son.

² Then shall he judge Thy people with righteousness, and Thy poor with judgment.

³ The mountains shall bring peace to the people and the little hills, by righteousness.

⁴ He shall judge the poor of the people; he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

⁵ They shall fear Thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.

⁶ He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass, as showers that water the earth.

⁷ In his days shall the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.

⁸ He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.

⁹ They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him, and his enemies shall lick the dust.

¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

¹¹ Yea, all kings shall fall down before him; all nations shall serve him.

¹² For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also and him that hath no helper.

¹³ He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.

¹⁴ He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence, and precious shall their blood be in his sight.

¹⁵ And he shall live, and to him shall be given from the gold of Sheba; prayer also shall be made for him continually, and daily shall he be praised.

¹⁶ There shall be corn by the handful in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall wave like Lebanon, and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

¹⁷ His name shall endure for ever, his name shall be continued as long as the sun, and men shall be blessed in him; all nations shall call him blessed.

¹⁸ Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone doeth wondrous things.

¹⁹ And blessed be His glorious name for ever, and let the whole earth be filled with His glory! Amen and Amen.

²⁰ The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,

² “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou and all this people, unto the land which I give to them, even to the children of Israel.

³ Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

⁴ From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your border.

⁵ There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee nor forsake thee.

⁶ Be strong and of a good courage, for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land which I swore unto their fathers to give them.

⁷ Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses My servant commanded thee. Turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

⁸ This Book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein. For then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

⁹ Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed, for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

³² And what shall I say more? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and of Barak and of Samson and of Jephthah, of David also and Samuel and of the prophets,

³³ who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

³⁴ quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword. Out of weakness they were made strong, waxed valiant in battle, and turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

³⁵ Women received their dead raised to life again, and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.

³⁶ And others endured the trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea moreover, of bonds and imprisonment.

³⁷ They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented

³⁸ (of whom the world was not worthy). They wandered in deserts and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

³⁹ And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise,

⁴⁰ God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

12 Therefore, seeing we also are compassed about by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

² looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
