Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
72 1 He prayeth for the prosperous estate of the kingdom of Solomon, who was the figure of Christ, 4 under whom shall be righteousness, peace, and felicity. 10 Unto whom all Kings and nations shall do homage, 17 Whose name and power shall endure forever, and in whom all nations shall be blessed.
A Psalm [a]of Solomon.
1 Give thy [b]judgments to the King, O God, and thy righteousness to the King’s [c]son.
2 Then shall he judge thy people in righteousness, and thy poor with equity.
3 The [d]mountains, and the hills shall bring peace to the people by justice.
4 He shall [e]judge the poor of the people: he shall save the children of the needy, and shall subdue the oppressor.
5 They shall [f]fear thee as long as the sun and moon endureth, from generation to generation.
6 He shall come [g]down like the rain upon the mown grass, and as the showers that water the earth.
7 In his days shall the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace shall be so long as the moon endureth.
8 His dominion shall be also from [h]sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the land.
9 They that dwell in the wilderness, shall kneel before him, and his enemies shall lick the dust.
10 The kings of [i]Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings [j]of Sheba and Seba shall bring gifts.
11 Yea, all kings shall worship him: all nations shall serve him.
12 For he shall deliver the poor when he crieth: the needy also, and him that hath no helper.
13 He shall be merciful to the poor and needy, and shall preserve the souls of the poor.
14 He shall redeem their souls from deceit and violence, and [k]dear shall their blood be in his sight.
15 Yea, he shall live, and unto him shall they give of the [l]gold of Sheba: they shall also pray for him continually, and daily bless him.
16 An handful of corn shall be sown in the earth, even in the top of the mountains, and the [m]fruit thereof shalt shake like the trees of Lebanon: and the children shall flourish out of the city like the grass of the earth.
17 His name shall be forever: his name shall endure as long as the Sun: all nations shall bless [n]him, and be blessed in him.
18 Blessed be the Lord God, even the God of Israel which only doeth [o]wondrous things.
19 And blessed be his glorious Name forever: and let all the earth be filled with his glory. So be it, even so be it.
[20] Here end the [p]prayers of David the son of Jesse.
10 ¶ Now Jacob departed from Beersheba, and went to Haran,
11 And he came unto a certain place, and tarried there all night because the sun was down, and took of the stones of the place, and laid under his head and slept in the same place.
12 Then he dreamed, and behold, there stood a [a]ladder upon the earth, and the top of it reached up to heaven: and lo, the Angels of God went up and down by it.
13 (A)And behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land, upon the which thou sleepest, [b]will I give thee and thy seed.
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad (B)to the West, and to the East, and to the North, and to the South, and in thee and in thy seed shall all the (C)families of the earth be blessed.
15 And lo, I am with thee, and will keep thee whithersoever thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land: for I will not forsake thee until I have performed that, that I have promised thee.
16 ¶ Then Jacob awoke out of his sleep and said, Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware.
17 And he was [c]afraid, and said, How fearful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
18 Then Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had laid under his head, and [d]set it up as (D)a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
19 And he called the name of that place [e]Bethel: notwithstanding the name of that city was at the first called Luz.
20 Then Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If [f]God will be with me, and will keep me in this journey which I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothes to put on:
21 So that I come again unto my father’s house in safety, then shall the Lord be my God.
22 And this stone, which I have set up as a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me, will I give the tenth unto thee.
13 All these died in [a]faith, and received not the [b]promises, but saw them afar off, and believed them, and [c]received them thankfully, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
14 For they that say such things, declare plainly, that they seek a country.
15 And if they had been mindful of that country, from whence they came out, they had leisure to have returned.
16 But now they desire a better, that is an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
17 By faith (A)Abraham offered up Isaac, when he was [d]tried, and he that had received the [e]promises, offered his only begotten son.
18 (To whom it was said, (B)In Isaac shall thy seed be called.)
19 For he considered that God was able to raise him up even from the dead: from [f]whence he received him also after [g]a sort.
20 [h]By faith (C)Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, concerning things to come.
21 [i]By faith (D)Jacob when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph, and (E)leaning on the end of his staff, worshipped God.
22 [j]By faith (F)Joseph when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel, and gave commandment of his bones.
