Psalm 80:1-7

Restore Us, Revive Us

Psalm 80

For the music director, on “Lilies,”[a] a testimony: a psalm of Asaph.
Give ear, Shepherd of Israel,
You who lead Joseph like a flock.
You who are enthroned upon the cheruvim, shine forth!
Before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh,
stir up Your might, and come to save us.
O God, restore us, make Your face shine,
and we will be saved.

Adonai-Tzva’ot, how long will You be angry
with the prayer of Your people?
You have fed them the bread of tears
and made them drink a measure of tears.
You make us a contention to our neighbors,
and our enemies mock as they please.

Psalm 80:17-19

17 It is burned with fire, it is cut down.
They perish from the rebuke of Your face.
18 Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand—
the son of man
    You made strong for Yourself.
19 Then we will not turn away from You.
Revive us, and we will call on Your Name.

2 Samuel 7:18-22

18 Then King David went in and sat before Adonai and said, “Who am I, my Lord Adonai, and what is my family, that You have brought me this far? 19 Yet this was a small thing in Your eyes, my Lord Adonai—for You have spoken also of Your servant’s house for the distant future. This is a revelation[a] for humanity, my Lord Adonai. 20 What more can David add in speaking to You? For You already know Your servant, my Lord Adonai. 21 For the sake of Your word and according to Your own heart, You have done everything great, revealing this to Your servant. 22 Therefore You are great, my Lord Adonai! For there is none like You, and there is no other God besides You, as we all have heard with our ears.

Galatians 4:1-7

Living as Heirs

Now I am saying, so long as the heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, even though he is the owner of everything. Instead, he is under guardians and managers until the date set by the father. So also, when we were underage, we were subservient to the basic principles of the world. But when the fullness of time came, God sent out His Son, born of a woman and born under law— to free those under law, so we might receive adoption as sons. Now because you are sons, God sent the Ruach of His Son into our hearts, who cries out, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave but a son—and if a son, also an heir through God.
