Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
122 I rejoiced when they said to me, “We will go into the House of the LORD.”
2 Our feet shall stand in Your gates, O Jerusalem!
3 Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together in itself,
4 to which the tribes—even the Tribes of the LORD—go up (according to the testimony to Israel) to praise the Name of the LORD.
5 For there are thrones set for judgment, the thrones of the House of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Let those who love You prosper.
7 Peace be within Your walls and prosperity within Your palaces.
8 For my brothers’ and neighbors’ sakes, I will now wish you prosperity.
9 Because of the House of the LORD our God, I will seek your good. A song of degrees
15 “And now, O Lord our God, who has brought your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand - and has gotten yourself renown, as appears this day - we have sinned. We have done wickedly.
16 “O Lord, according to all your righteousness, I beg you, let your anger and your wrath be turned away from your city, Jerusalem, your holy Mountain. Because of our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people are a reproach to all that are around us.
17 “Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of your servant, and his supplications. And for the Lord’s sake, cause your face to shine upon your Sanctuary, which lies in ruins.
18 “O my God, incline your ear and hear. Open your eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city whereupon your Name is called. For we do not present our supplications before you for our own righteousness, but for your great tender mercies.
19 “O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, consider, and do it! Do not delay, for your own sake, O my God. For your Name is called upon your city, and your people.”
4 From where are wars and contentions among you? Do they not come from your sensual pleasures, which fight in your members?
2 You lust, and do not have. You envy and desire immoderately and cannot obtain. You fight and war and get nothing, because you do not ask.
3 You ask and do not receive because you ask amiss, so that you might spend it on your pleasures.
4 You adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that the amity of the world is the enmity of God? Therefore, whoever will be a friend of the world, makes himself the enemy of God.
5 Do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit that dwells in us longs enviously”?
6 But it offers more grace, and therefore says, “God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.
7 Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. And purge your hearts, you double-minded.
9 Suffer afflictions and sorrow, and weep. Let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your joy into heaviness.
10 Cast yourselves down before the Lord, and He will lift you up.
