Version
Job 19:23-27

23 O that[a] my words could be written down!
O that they could be inscribed in a scroll![b]
24 That with a pen of iron and with lead
they might be engraved on a rock forever!
25 But[c] I myself[d] know that my redeemer is alive,
and at the last he will stand up upon the earth.[e]
26 And after my skin has been thus destroyed,
but[f] from[g] my flesh I will see God,
27 whom I will see for myself,[h]
and whom my eyes will see and not a stranger.[i]
My heart faints within me.[j]

Psalm 17:1-9

Prayer for Vindication and Protection

A prayer of David.[a]

17 O Yahweh, hear a just cause.
Hear my cry; heed my prayer
I make without deceitful lips.
Let my vindication come forth from you;
let your eyes see fairness.
You have tried my heart;
you have examined me by night;
you have tested me; you found nothing.
I have decided that my mouth will not transgress.
As for the works of humankind,
by the word of your lips,
I have kept from the ways of the violent.
I have held my steps in your path
My feet will not slip.
As for me, I have called on you
because you will answer me, O God.
Incline your ear to me.
Hear my words.[b]
Show wondrously your acts of loyal love,
O Savior of those who take refuge
at your right hand[c]
from those who rise up against them.
Keep me as the apple of your eye.[d]
Hide me in the shadow of your wings
from the presence[e] of the wicked who destroy me,
those enemies against my life,
they that surround me.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-5

The Man of Lawlessness Will Be Revealed

Now we ask you, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our assembling to him, that you not be easily shaken from your composure, nor be troubled either by a spirit or by a message or by a letter alleged to be from us[a], to the effect that the day of the Lord has arrived. Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and who exalts himself over every so-called god or object of worship, so that he sits down in the temple of God, proclaiming that he himself is God.

Do you not remember that while[b] we were still with you, we were saying these things to you?

2 Thessalonians 2:13-17

Stand Firm and Hold Fast

13 But we ought to give thanks to God always concerning you, brothers dearly loved by the Lord, because God has chosen you as first fruits for salvation by the sanctification of the Spirit and faith in the truth, 14 for which purpose he called[a] you through our gospel for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions which you were taught, whether by spoken word or by letter from us. 16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.

Luke 20:27-38

A Question About Marriage and the Resurrection

27 Now some of the Sadducees—who deny that there is a resurrection[a]—came up and[b] asked him, 28 saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us if someone’s brother dies having a wife, and this man is childless, that his brother should take the wife and father[c] descendants for his brother. 29 Now there were seven brothers, and the first took a wife and[d] died childless, 30 and the second, 31 and the third took her, and likewise also the seven did not leave children and died. 32 Finally the woman also died. 33 Therefore in the resurrection, the woman—whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife.” 34 And Jesus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, 35 but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, 36 for they are not even able to die any longer, because they are like the angels and are sons of God, because they[e] are sons of the resurrection. 37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses revealed in the passage about[f] the bush, when he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. 38 Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him!”
