Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Psalm 61
Security in God
For the choir director: on stringed instruments. Davidic.
1 God, hear my cry;
pay attention to my prayer.(A)
2 I call to You from the ends of the earth
when my heart is without strength.(B)
Lead me to a rock that is high above me,(C)
3 for You have been a refuge for me,
a strong tower(D) in the face of the enemy.
4 I will live in Your tent forever
and take refuge under the shelter of Your wings.(E)
5 God, You have heard my vows;(F)
You have given a heritage
to those who fear Your name.(G)
6 Add days to the king’s life;
may his years span many generations.(H)
7 May he sit enthroned before God forever;(I)
appoint faithful love and truth to guard him.(J)
8 Then I will continually sing of Your name,(K)
fulfilling my vows day by day.(L)
Judah’s King Azariah
15 In the twenty-seventh year of Israel’s King Jeroboam, Azariah[a](A) son of Amaziah became king of Judah.(B) 2 He was 16 years old when he became king and reigned 52 years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jecoliah, who was from Jerusalem. 3 Azariah did what was right in the Lord’s sight(C) just as his father Amaziah had done. 4 Yet the high places were not taken away; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense on the high places.(D)
5 The Lord afflicted the king, and he had a serious skin disease until the day of his death.(E) He lived in a separate house,[b](F) while Jotham,(G) the king’s son, was over the household governing the people of the land.(H)
6 The rest of the events of Azariah’s reign, along with all his accomplishments, are written in the Historical Record of Judah’s Kings.(I) 7 Azariah rested with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. His son Jotham became king in his place.(J)
5 Jesus sent out these 12 after giving them instructions: “Don’t take the road leading to other nations, and don’t enter any Samaritan(A) town. 6 Instead, go to the lost sheep(B) of the house of Israel.(C) 7 As you go, announce this: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’(D) 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with skin diseases, drive out demons.(E) You have received free of charge; give free of charge. 9 Don’t take along gold, silver, or copper for your money-belts.(F) 10 Don’t take a traveling bag for the road, or an extra shirt, sandals, or a walking stick, for the worker(G) is worthy of his food.
11 “When you enter any town or village, find out who is worthy, and stay there until you leave. 12 Greet a household when you enter it,(H) 13 and if the household is worthy, let your peace be on it. But if it is unworthy, let your peace return to you.(I) 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet(J) when you leave that house or town. 15 I assure you: It will be more tolerable on the day of judgment(K) for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.(L)
