Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Naaman Is Healed
5 Now (A)Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man [a]with his master, and highly respected, because by him the Lord had given victory to Aram. The man was also a valiant warrior, but he was a leper. 2 Now the Arameans had gone out (B)in bands and had taken captive a little girl from the land of Israel; and she [b]waited on Naaman’s wife. 3 She said to her mistress, “I wish that my master were [c]with the prophet who is in Samaria! Then he would cure him of his leprosy.”
7 When the king of Israel read the letter, (A)he tore his clothes and said, “(B)Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man is sending word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? But (C)consider now, and see how he is seeking [a]a quarrel against me.”
8 It happened when Elisha (D)the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent word to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Now let him come to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.” 9 So Naaman came with his horses and his chariots and stood at the doorway of the house of Elisha. 10 Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “(E)Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh will be restored to you and you will be clean.” 11 But Naaman was furious and went away and said, “Behold, I [b]thought, ‘He will surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper.’ 12 Are not [c]Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and (F)went away in a rage. 13 (G)Then his servants came near and spoke to him and said, “(H)My father, had the prophet told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” 14 So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; and (I)his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child and (J)he was clean.
Gehazi’s Greed
15 When he returned to the man of God [d]with all his company, and came and stood before him, he said, “Behold now, (K)I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel; so please (L)take a [e]present from your servant now.”
The Lord Praised for His Goodness.
111 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
I (A)will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In the (B)company of the upright and in the assembly.
2 (C)Great are the works of the Lord;
They are [c](D)studied by all who delight in them.
3 [d](E)Splendid and majestic is His work,
And (F)His righteousness endures forever.
4 He has made His [e]wonders [f]to be remembered;
The Lord is (G)gracious and compassionate.
5 He has (H)given [g]food to those who [h]fear Him;
He will (I)remember His covenant forever.
6 He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the heritage of the nations.
7 The works of His hands are [i](J)truth and justice;
All His precepts (K)are [j]sure.
8 They are (L)upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in [k](M)truth and uprightness.
9 He has sent (N)redemption to His people;
He has [l]ordained His covenant forever;
(O)Holy and [m]awesome is His name.
10 The [n](P)fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
A (Q)good understanding have all those who [o]do His commandments;
His (R)praise endures forever.
8 Remember Jesus Christ, (A)risen from the dead, (B)descendant of David, (C)according to my gospel, 9 [a]for which I (D)suffer hardship even to (E)imprisonment as a (F)criminal; but (G)the word of God (H)is not imprisoned. 10 For this reason (I)I endure all things for (J)the sake of those who are chosen, (K)so that they also may obtain the (L)salvation which is in (M)Christ Jesus and with it (N)eternal glory. 11 (O)It is a trustworthy statement:
For (P)if we died with Him, we will also live with Him;
12 If we endure, (Q)we will also reign with Him;
If we [b](R)deny Him, He also will deny us;
13 If we are faithless, (S)He remains faithful, for (T)He cannot deny Himself.
An Unashamed Workman
14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly (U)charge them in the presence of God not to (V)wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to (W)present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling (X)the word of truth.
Ten Lepers Cleansed
11 While He was (A)on the way to Jerusalem, (B)He was passing [a]between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As He entered a village, ten leprous men who (C)stood at a distance met Him; 13 and they raised their voices, saying, “Jesus, (D)Master, have mercy on us!” 14 When He saw them, He said to them, “(E)Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were going, they were cleansed. 15 Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, (F)glorifying God with a loud voice, 16 and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a (G)Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine—where are they? 18 [b]Was no one found who returned to (H)give glory to God, except this foreigner?” 19 And He said to him, “Stand up and go; (I)your faith [c]has made you well.”
