Psalm 62

God Alone a Refuge from Treachery and Oppression.

For the choir director; [a]according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

62 (A)My soul waits in silence for God only;
From Him (B)is my salvation.
He only is my (C)rock and my salvation,
My (D)stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.

How long will you assail a man,
That you may murder him, all of you,
Like a (E)leaning wall, like a tottering fence?
They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position;
They (F)delight in falsehood;
They (G)bless with [b]their mouth,
But inwardly they curse. [c]Selah.

My soul, (H)wait in silence for God only,
For my hope is from Him.
He only is (I)my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
On God my (J)salvation and my glory rest;
The rock of my strength, my (K)refuge is in God.
(L)Trust in Him at all times, O people;
(M)Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Men of (N)low degree are only (O)vanity and men of rank are a (P)lie;
In the (Q)balances they go up;
They are together lighter than breath.
10 (R)Do not trust in oppression
And do not [d]vainly hope in (S)robbery;
If riches increase, (T)do not set your heart upon them.

11 [e]Once God has (U)spoken;
[f]Twice I have heard this:
That (V)power belongs to God;
12 And lovingkindness (W)is Yours, O Lord,
For You (X)recompense a man according to his work.

Hosea 12:2-14

The Lord also has a (A)dispute with Judah,
And will punish Jacob (B)according to his ways;
He will repay him according to his deeds.
In the womb he (C)took his brother by the heel,
And in his maturity he (D)contended with God.
Yes, he wrestled with the angel and prevailed;
He wept and (E)sought His favor.
He found Him at (F)Bethel
And there He spoke with us,
Even the Lord, the God of hosts,
The Lord is His [a](G)name.
Therefore, (H)return to your God,
(I)Observe [b]kindness and justice,
And (J)wait for your God continually.
A [c]merchant, in whose hands are false (K)balances,
He loves to oppress.
And Ephraim said, “Surely I have become (L)rich,
I have found wealth for myself;
In all my labors they will find in me
(M)No iniquity, which would be sin.”
But I have been the Lord your God since the land of Egypt;
I will make you (N)live in tents again,
As in the days of the appointed festival.
10 I have also spoken to the (O)prophets,
And I [d]gave numerous visions,
And through the prophets I gave (P)parables.
11 Is there iniquity in Gilead?
Surely they are worthless.
In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls,
Yes, (Q)their altars are like the stone heaps
Beside the furrows of the field.

12 Now (R)Jacob fled to the [e]land of Aram,
And (S)Israel worked for a wife,
And for a wife he kept sheep.
13 But by a (T)prophet the Lord brought Israel from Egypt,
And by a prophet he was kept.
14 (U)Ephraim has provoked to bitter anger;
So his Lord will leave his (V)bloodguilt on him
And bring back his (W)reproach to him.

Matthew 19:16-22

The Rich Young Ruler

16 (A)And someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain (B)eternal life?” 17 And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but (C)if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” 18 Then he *said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, (D)You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; 19 (E)Honor your father and mother; and (F)You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 20 The young man *said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be [a]complete, go and (G)sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have (H)treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.
