Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
I Will Praise Yahweh Throughout My Life
146 [a]Praise Yah!
(A)Praise Yahweh, O my soul!
2 I will praise Yahweh (B)throughout my life;
I will (C)sing praises to my God while I have my being.
3 (D)Do not trust in nobles,
In merely a son of (E)man, in whom there is (F)no salvation.
4 His (G)spirit departs, he (H)returns to [b]the earth;
In that very day his (I)plans perish.
5 How (J)blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose (K)hope is in Yahweh his God,
6 Who (L)made heaven and earth,
The (M)sea and all that is in them;
Who (N)keeps truth forever;
7 Who (O)does justice for the oppressed;
Who (P)gives food to the hungry.
Yahweh (Q)sets the prisoners free.
8 Yahweh (R)opens the eyes of the blind;
Yahweh (S)raises up those who are bowed down;
Yahweh (T)loves the righteous;
9 Yahweh (U)keeps the sojourners;
He [c](V)helps up the orphan and the widow,
But He bends (W)the way of the wicked.
10 Yahweh will (X)reign forever,
Your God, O Zion, [d]from generation to generation.
[e]Praise Yah!
2 The rich and the poor meet together in this—
Yahweh is the (A)Maker of them all.
3 A (B)prudent man sees evil and hides,
But the simple pass on, and are punished.
4 The reward of humility—the [a]fear of Yahweh—
Is riches, glory, and life.
5 (C)Thorns and snares are in the way of the crooked;
He who keeps his soul will be far from them.
6 [b](D)Train up a child [c]according to his way,
Even when he is old he will not [d]depart from it.
7 The (E)rich rules over the poor,
And the borrower is the slave of the lender.
8 He who (F)sows unrighteousness will reap iniquity,
And the (G)rod of his fury will end.
9 He who [e]is (H)generous will be blessed,
For he (I)gives from his food to the poor.
10 (J)Drive out the scoffer, and strife will go out,
Even contention and disgrace will cease.
11 He who loves (K)purity of heart
And (L)grace on his lips, the king is his friend.
12 The eyes of Yahweh guard knowledge,
But He subverts the words of the treacherous one.
13 The (M)sluggard says, “There is a lion outside;
I will be killed in the streets!”
14 The mouth of (N)strange women is a deep pit;
He who is (O)cursed of Yahweh will fall [f]into it.
15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child;
The (P)rod of discipline will remove it far from him.
16 He (Q)who oppresses the poor to make [g]more for himself
Or who gives to the rich (R)will only come to lack.
8 I (A)am not speaking this as a command, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity of your love also. 9 For you know (B)the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that (C)though being rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich. 10 And I (D)give my opinion in this matter, for this is profitable for you, who were the first to begin (E)a year ago not only to do this, but also to desire to do it. 11 But now complete [a]doing it also, so that just as there was the (F)readiness to desire it, so there may be also the completion of it from what you have. 12 For if the readiness is present, it is acceptable (G)according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. 13 For this is not for the relief of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality— 14 at this present time your abundance being a supply for (H)their need, so that their abundance also may become a supply for (I)your need, that there may be equality. 15 As it is written, “(J)He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little had no lack.”
