Psalm 12

12 Help, LORD! For there is not a godly man left. For the faithful have failed from among the children of men.

They speak deceitfully, everyone with his neighbor; flattering with their lips, speaking with a double heart.

The LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things,

which have said, “With our tongue we will prevail. Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?”

“Now, for the oppression of the needy, for the sighs of the poor, I will arise;” says the LORD, “and will speak their deliverance.”

The Words of the LORD are pure Words, as silver, tried in a furnace of earth; refined sevenfold.

You will keep them, O LORD. You will preserve him from this generation, forever.

The wicked walk on every side. When they are exalted, it is a shame for the sons of men. To him who excels: A Psalm of David.

Proverbs 14:12-31

12 There is a way that seems right to a man. But the ends thereof are the ways of death.

13 Even in laughing, the heart is sorrowful. And the end of that joy is heaviness.

14 The backslider at heart shall be satiated with his own ways. But a good man shall depart from them.

15 The foolish will believe everything. But the prudent will consider his steps.

16 A wise man fears and departs from evil. But a fool rages and is careless.

17 He who is quick to anger, commits folly. And a schemer is hated.

18 The foolish inherit folly. But the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 The evil shall bow before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20 The poor are hated, even by their own neighbors. But the friends of the rich are many.

21 The sinner despises his neighbor. But he who has mercy on the poor is blessed.

22 Do not those err who imagine evil? But mercy and truth shall be to those who think on good things.

23 In all labor there is abundance. But the talk of the lips brings only want.

24 The crown of the wise is their riches; the folly of fools, foolishness.

25 A faithful witness delivers souls. But a deceiver speaks lies.

26 An assured strength is in the fear of the LORD. And his children shall have hope.

27 The fear of the LORD is as a wellspring of life, to avoid the snares of death.

28 The honor of a King is in the multitude of the people. And the destruction of the Prince comes for lack of people.

29 He who is slow to wrath, is of great wisdom. But he who is of a hasty mind, exalts folly.

30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh. But envy is the rotting of the bones.

31 He who oppresses the poor, reproves Him Who made him. But he who has mercy on the poor, honors Him.

Acts 4:1-12

And as they spoke to the people, the priests and the Captain of the Temple and the Sadducees came upon them,

annoyed that they taught the people and preached the resurrection from the dead in Jesus’ Name.

And they laid hands on them and put them in custody until the next day. For it was now evening.

However, many of those who heard the Word, believed. And the number of the men was about five thousand.

And on the next day it so happened that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, were gathered together at Jerusalem;

and Annas, the High Priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were in the family of the High Priest.

And when they had set them before them, they asked, “By what power, or in what Name, have you done this?”

Then Peter, full of the Holy Ghost, said to them, “Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel!

“If we are being examined today regarding the good deed done to the impotent man (or, by what means he is made whole),

10 “be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth - Whom you have crucified, Whom God raised again from the dead - by Him does this man stand here before you, whole.

11 “This is the Stone cast aside by you builders, which has become the Cornerstone.

12 “Nor is there salvation in any other. For among men there is given no other Name under heaven whereby we must be saved.”
