Proverbs 25:6-7

Do not claim honor in the presence of the king,
And do not stand in the place of great men;
For (A)it is better that it be said to you, “Come up here,”
Than for you to be placed lower in the presence of the prince,
Whom your eyes have seen.

Psalm 112

Prosperity of the One Who Fears the Lord.

112 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
How (A)blessed is the man who [c]fears the Lord,
Who greatly (B)delights in His commandments.
His [d](C)descendants will be mighty [e]on earth;
The generation of the (D)upright will be blessed.
(E)Wealth and riches are in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.
Light arises in the darkness (F)for the upright;
He is (G)gracious and compassionate and righteous.
It is well with the man who (H)is gracious and lends;
He will [f]maintain his cause in judgment.
For he will (I)never be shaken;
The (J)righteous will be [g]remembered forever.

He will not fear (K)evil tidings;
His (L)heart is steadfast, (M)trusting in the Lord.
His (N)heart is upheld, he (O)will not fear,
Until he (P)looks with satisfaction on his adversaries.
[h]He (Q)has given freely to the poor,
His righteousness endures forever;
His (R)horn will be exalted in honor.

10 The (S)wicked will see it and be [i]vexed,
He will (T)gnash his teeth and (U)melt away;
The (V)desire of the wicked will perish.

Hebrews 13:1-8

The Changeless Christ

13 Let (A)love of the brethren continue. Do not neglect to (B)show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have (C)entertained angels without knowing it. (D)Remember (E)the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body. (F)Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; (G)for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. Make sure that your character is (H)free from the love of money, (I)being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “(J)I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,” so that we confidently say,

(K)The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.
What will man do to me?”

Remember (L)those who led you, who spoke (M)the word of God to you; and considering the [a]result of their conduct, (N)imitate their faith. (O)Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Hebrews 13:15-16

God-pleasing Sacrifices

15 (A)Through Him then, let us continually offer up a (B)sacrifice of praise to God, that is, (C)the fruit of lips that [a]give thanks to His name. 16 And do not neglect doing good and (D)sharing, for (E)with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Luke 14:1

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath

14 It happened that when He went into the house of one of the [a]leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, (A)they were watching Him closely.

Luke 14:7-14

Parable of the Guests

And He began speaking a parable to the invited guests when He noticed how (A)they had been picking out the places of honor at the table, saying to them, “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, (B)do not [a]take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished than you may have been invited by him, and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then (C)in disgrace you [b]proceed to occupy the last place. 10 But when you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, (D)move up higher’; then you will have honor in the sight of all who [c]are at the table with you. 11 (E)For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

12 And He also went on to say to the one who had invited Him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, otherwise they may also invite you in return and that will be your repayment. 13 But when you give a [d]reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, since they [e]do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at (F)the resurrection of the righteous.”
