Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
21 But as for You, O Yahweh, O Lord, deal with me (A)for Your name’s sake;
Because (B)Your lovingkindness is good, deliver me;
22 For (C)I am afflicted and needy,
And [a]my heart is (D)pierced within me.
23 I am passing (E)like a shadow when it is stretched out;
I am shaken off (F)like the locust.
24 My (G)knees are feeble from (H)fasting,
And my flesh has grown lean, without fatness.
25 As for me, I have become a (I)reproach to them;
They see me, they (J)wag their head.
26 (K)Help me, O Yahweh my God;
Save me according to Your lovingkindness.
27 [b]And let them (L)know that this is Your hand;
You, O Yahweh, have done it.
28 (M)Let them curse, but You bless;
They arise and will be put to shame,
But Your (N)slave shall be glad.
29 [c]Let (O)my accusers be clothed with dishonor,
And [d]let them (P)wrap themselves with their own shame as with a robe.
18 “I said to their [a](A)children in the wilderness, ‘(B)Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers and do not keep their judgments and do not defile yourselves with their idols. 19 (C)I am Yahweh your God; (D)walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them. 20 (E)Keep My sabbaths holy; and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am Yahweh your God.’ 21 But the (F)children rebelled against Me; they did not walk in My statutes, nor were they careful to do My judgments, which, if a man does them, he will live by them; they profaned My sabbaths. So I said I would pour out My wrath on them, to spend My anger against them in the wilderness. 22 But I (G)turned back My hand and acted (H)for the sake of My name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out. 23 Also I swore to them in the wilderness that I would (I)scatter them among the nations and [b]disperse them among the lands 24 because they had not done My judgments, but had rejected My statutes and had profaned My sabbaths, and (J)their eyes were going after the idols of their fathers. 25 And I also gave them statutes that were (K)not good and judgments by which they could not live; 26 and I pronounced them (L)unclean because of their gifts, in that they (M)caused all [c]their firstborn to pass through the fire so that I might make them desolate, in order that they might (N)know that I am Yahweh.”’
27 “Therefore, son of man, (O)speak to the house of Israel and say to them, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Yet in this your fathers have (P)blasphemed Me by (Q)acting unfaithfully against Me. 28 Indeed, I (R)brought them into the land which I swore to give to them, and they saw every (S)high hill and every leafy tree, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they gave the provocation of their offering. There also they made their soothing aroma, and there they poured out their drink offerings. 29 Then I said to them, ‘What is the high place to which you are going?’ So its name is called [d]Bamah to this day.”’ 30 Therefore, say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Will you defile yourselves in the way of your (T)fathers and play the harlot after their detestable things? 31 [e]And when you offer your gifts, when you (U)cause your sons to pass through the fire, you are defiling yourselves with all your idols to this day. And shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live,” declares Lord Yahweh, “I will not be inquired of by you. 32 And what (V)comes upon your spirit will not happen, when you say: ‘We will be like the nations, like the families of the lands, (W)to minister to wood and stone.’
To the Church in Philadelphia
7 “And to the angel of the church in (A)Philadelphia write:
(B)This is what He who is holy, (C)who is true, who has (D)the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says:
8 ‘(E)I know your [a]deeds. Behold, I have given before you (F)an open door which no one can shut, because you have a little power, and have kept My word, and (G)have not denied My name. 9 Behold, I am giving up those of (H)the synagogue of Satan, those who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie. Behold, I will make them (I)come and bow down before your feet, and make them know that (J)I have loved you. 10 Because you have (K)kept the word of (L)My perseverance, (M)I also will keep you from the hour of [b](N)testing, which is about to come upon the whole [c](O)world, to [d]test (P)those who dwell on the earth. 11 (Q)I am coming quickly; (R)hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your (S)crown. 12 (T)He who overcomes, I will make him a (U)pillar in the sanctuary of My God, and he will never go out from it anymore. And I will write on him the (V)name of My God, and (W)the name of the city of My God, (X)the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My (Y)new name. 13 (Z)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
