Psalm 32

Thanksgiving for Forgiveness of Sins

Of David. A maskil.[a]

32 Happy is he whose transgression is taken away,
whose sin is covered.
Happy is a person to whom Yahweh does not impute iniquity
and in whose spirit there is not deceit.
When I kept silent, my bones were worn out
due to my groaning all the day.
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me.
My vigor was changed into the dry heat of summer. Selah
I made known my sin to you, and my iniquity I did not cover.
I said, “I will confess concerning my transgressions to Yahweh,”
and you took away the guilt of my sin. Selah
Therefore let all the faithful pray to you
at the time for finding you.
Surely at the flood of many waters they will not reach him.
You are my hiding place;
from trouble you preserve me.
With cries of deliverance you surround me. Selah
I[b] will instruct you and teach you
in the way that you should go.
I will advise you with my eye upon you.
Do not be like a horse or like a mule, without understanding;
that needs his tackle—bridle and rein—for restraint
or he would not come near you.
10 Many are the pains of the wicked,
but for the one who trusts Yahweh
loyal love surrounds him.
11 Be glad in Yahweh and rejoice, you righteous,
and shout for joy, all you upright of heart.

Jeremiah 25:30-38

30 And you yourself shall prophesy against them all these words, and you shall say to them:

‘Yahweh will roar from on high,
and from his holy dwelling place[a] he will give his voice.
He will roar mightily against his settlement,
a jubilant shout like those who tread grapes,
he will answer against all the inhabitants of the earth.
31 The rage of battle will resound to the end of the earth,
for there is a lawsuit of Yahweh against the nations.
He is entering into judgment with all wicked flesh,
he will give them to the sword,’ declares[b] Yahweh.”

32 Thus says Yahweh of hosts,

“Look, disaster is going out from nation to nation,
and a great tempest is stirred up from the farthest parts of the earth.
33 And the slain ones of Yahweh will be on that day
from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth,
and they will not be mourned,
and they will not be gathered,
and they will not be buried.
They will become like dung on the surface[c] of the ground.
34 Wail, you shepherds, and cry out.
And roll about in mourning in the dust, O leaders[d] of the flock.
For your days of slaughter and your dispersions have arrived,
and you will fall like a vessel of desire.
35 And flight will perish from the shepherds,
and escape from the leaders[e] of the flock.
36 A sound, the cry of distress of the shepherds
and the wailing of the leaders[f] of the flock,
for Yahweh is despoiling their pasture.
37 And the peaceful settlements[g] are devastated
because of the burning anger of Yahweh.[h]
38 He has left his den like a lion,
for their land has become a horror,
because of the anger of the oppressors,
and because of his burning anger.”[i]

Luke 19:45-48

The Cleansing of the Temple

45 And he entered into the temple courts[a] and[b] began to drive out those who were selling, 46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘And my house will be a house of prayer,’[c] but you have made it a cave of robbers!”

47 And he was teaching every day in the temple courts,[d] and the chief priests and the scribes and the most prominent men of the people were seeking to destroy him. 48 And they did not find anything they could do, because all the people were paying close attention to what they were hearing from him.
