Psalm 32

Psalm 32[a]

Remission of Sin

(A)Of David. A maskil.

I

Blessed is the one whose fault is removed,
    whose sin is forgiven.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord imputes no guilt,
    in whose spirit is no deceit.

II

Because I kept silent,[b] my bones wasted away;
    I groaned all day long.(B)
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
    my strength withered as in dry summer heat.
Selah
Then I declared my sin to you;
    my guilt I did not hide.(C)
I said, “I confess my transgression to the Lord,”
    and you took away the guilt of my sin.
Selah
Therefore every loyal person should pray to you
    in time of distress.
Though flood waters[c] threaten,
    they will never reach him.(D)
You are my shelter; you guard me from distress;
    with joyful shouts of deliverance you surround me.
Selah

III

I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk,
    give you counsel with my eye upon you.
Do not be like a horse or mule, without understanding;
    with bit and bridle their temper is curbed,
    else they will not come to you.

IV

10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked one,
    but mercy surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.
11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous;
    exult, all you upright of heart.(E)

Jeremiah 25:15-29

The Cup of Judgment on the Nations. 15 [a]For thus said the Lord, the God of Israel, to me: Take this cup of the wine of wrath[b] from my hand and have all the nations to whom I will send you drink it.(A) 16 They shall drink, and retch, and go mad, because of the sword I will send among them.(B) 17 I took the cup from the hand of the Lord and gave it as drink to all the nations to whom the Lord sent me: 18 to Jerusalem, the cities of Judah, its kings and princes, to make them a ruin and a waste, an object of hissing and cursing, as they are today; 19 to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and his servants, princes, all his people 20 and those of mixed ancestry; all the kings of the land of Uz;[c] all the kings of the land of the Philistines: Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod; 21 Edom, Moab, and the Ammonites; 22 all the kings of Tyre, of Sidon, and of the shores beyond the sea;[d] 23 Dedan and Tema and Buz,[e] all the desert dwellers who shave their temples; 24 all the kings of Arabia; 25 all the kings of Zimri, of Elam, of the Medes; 26 all the kings of the north, near and far, one after the other; all the kingdoms upon the face of the earth and after them the king of Sheshach[f] shall drink.

27 Tell them: Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink! Get drunk and vomit! Fall, never to rise, before the sword that I will send among you!(C) 28 If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, say to them: Thus says the Lord of hosts: You must drink!(D) 29 Now that I am inflicting evil on this city, called by my name, how can you possibly escape? You shall not escape! I am calling down the sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth—oracle of the Lord of hosts.

Acts 7:44-53

44 Our ancestors had the tent of testimony in the desert just as the One who spoke to Moses directed him to make it according to the pattern he had seen.(A) 45 Our ancestors who inherited it brought it with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out from before our ancestors, up to the time of David,(B) 46 who found favor in the sight of God and asked that he might find a dwelling place for the house of Jacob.(C) 47 But Solomon built a house for him.(D) 48 Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:(E)

49 ‘The heavens are my throne,
    the earth is my footstool.
What kind of house can you build for me?
    says the Lord,
    or what is to be my resting place?(F)
50 Did not my hand make all these things?’

Conclusion. 51 “You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always oppose the holy Spirit; you are just like your ancestors. 52 Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute? They put to death those who foretold the coming of the righteous one, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become.(G) 53 You received the law as transmitted by angels, but you did not observe it.”(H)
