Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
20 The LORD hear you on the day of trouble. The Name of the God of Jacob defend you;
2 send you help from the Sanctuary and strengthen you out of Zion.
3 Let Him remember all your offerings and turn your burnt offerings into ashes. Selah.
4 Grant you according to your heart and fulfill all your purpose,
5 so that we may rejoice in your salvation—and set up the banner in the Name of our God—when the LORD shall perform all your petitions.
6 Now I know that the LORD will help His anointed; and will hear him from His Sanctuary, by the mighty help of His right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses. But we will remember the Name of the LORD our God.
8 They are brought down and fallen. But we are risen and stand upright.
9 Save, LORD! Let the king hear us on the day that we call! To him who excels: A Psalm of David.
7 And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim and lifted up his voice and cried and said to them, “Listen to me, you men of Shechem, so that God may listen to you!
8 “The trees went forth to anoint a king over them, and said to the olive tree, ‘Reign over us!’
9 “But the olive tree said to them, ‘Should I leave my fatness with which they honor God and man and go to advance above the trees?’
10 “Then the trees said to the fig tree, ‘Come! Be king over us!’
11 “But the fig tree answered them, ‘Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to advance above the trees?’
12 “Then the trees said to the vine, ‘Come! Be king over us!’
13 “But the vine said to them, ‘Should I leave my wine, by which I cheer God and man, and go to advance above the trees?’
14 “Then all the trees said to the bramble, ‘Come! Reign over us!’
15 “And the bramble said to the trees, ‘If you will indeed anoint me king over you, come and put your trust under my shadow. And if not, the fire shall come out of the bramble and consume the cedars of Lebanon.’
18 Little children, it is the last hour. And just as you have heard that Antichrist shall come, so now there are many Antichrists (by which we know that it is the last hour).
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us. For if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But this is so that all of those who were not of us are revealed.
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One and know all things.
21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it (and no lie comes from the truth).
22 Who is a liar, except the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is Antichrist, who denies the Father and the Son.
23 Whoever denies the Son, the same does not have the Father.
24 Therefore, let that same which you have heard from the beginning remain in you. If that which you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, you shall also continue in the Son and in the Father.
25 And this is the promise that He has promised us: eternal life.
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who deceive you.
27 But that anointing which you received from Him dwells in you. And you do not need anyone to teach you. But as that same anointing teaches you of all things - and it is true, and not lying, and as it is taught to you - you shall abide in Him.
28 And now, little children, abide in Him. So that when He shall appear, we may be bold and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
