Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
12 Laud Yahweh, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13 For He strengthened the (A)bars of your gates;
He (B)blessed your sons within you.
14 He is the One who (C)sets [a]peace in your borders,
He (D)satisfies you with (E)the [b]finest of the wheat,
15 The One who sends forth His (F)command to the earth;
His (G)word runs very swiftly,
16 The One who gives (H)snow like wool;
He scatters the (I)frost like ashes,
17 Who casts forth His (J)ice as fragments;
Who can stand before His (K)cold?
18 He (L)sends forth His word and melts them;
He (M)causes His wind to blow and so the waters flow,
19 Who (N)declares His words to Jacob,
His (O)statutes and His judgments to Israel.
20 He (P)has not done so with any nation;
So as for His judgments, they have (Q)not known them.
[c]Praise Yah!
7 (A)In that night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask what I should give to you.”
God Gives Wisdom to Solomon
8 Then Solomon said to God, “You have shown great lovingkindness to my father David, and (B)have made me king in his place. 9 Now, O Yahweh God, (C)let Your [a]promise to my father David [b]endure, for You have made me king over (D)a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. 10 (E)Give me now wisdom and knowledge, (F)that I may go out and come in before this people, for who can do justice for this great people of Yours?” 11 (G)And God said to Solomon, “Because [c]you had this in your heart, and did not ask for riches, wealth, or glory, or the life of those who hate you, nor have you even asked for long life, but you have asked for yourself wisdom and knowledge that you may do justice for My people over whom I have made you king, 12 wisdom and knowledge have been given to you. And (H)I will give you riches and wealth and glory, [d]such as none of the kings who were before you had nor those who will [e]come after you.” 13 (I)So Solomon went [f]from the high place which was at Gibeon, from the tent of meeting, to Jerusalem, and he reigned over Israel.
32 (A)But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
33 “See to it, (B)keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time [a]will come. 34 (C)It is like a man away on a journey, who, leaving his house and giving authority to his slaves—each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay awake. 35 Therefore, (D)stay awake—for you do not know when the [b]master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or (E)when the rooster crows, or (F)in the morning— 36 lest he come suddenly and find you (G)sleeping. 37 And what I say to you I say to all, ‘(H)Stay awake!’”
