Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The Judgments of the Branch
11 Then a (A)shoot will spring from the (B)stem of Jesse,
And a (C)branch from (D)his roots will bear fruit.
2 The (E)Spirit of Yahweh will rest on Him,
The spirit of (F)wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and (G)might,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of Yahweh.
3 And He will delight in the fear of Yahweh,
And He will not judge by what His eyes (H)see,
Nor render a decision by what His ears hear;
4 But with (I)righteousness He will judge the (J)poor,
And decide with uprightness for the (K)afflicted of the earth;
And He will strike the earth with the (L)rod of His mouth,
And with the (M)breath of His lips He will put the wicked to death.
5 Also (N)righteousness will be the belt about His loins,
And (O)faithfulness the belt about His waist.
6 And the (P)wolf will [a]dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,
And the calf and the young lion [b]and the fatling together;
And a young boy will lead them.
7 Also the cow and the bear will graze,
Their young will lie down together,
And the (Q)lion will eat straw like the ox.
8 And the nursing baby will play by the hole of the cobra,
And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.
9 They will (R)do no evil nor act corruptly in all My holy mountain,
For the (S)earth will be full of the knowledge of Yahweh
As the waters cover the sea.
20 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 21 “(A)Separate yourselves from among this congregation, (B)that I may consume them instantly.” 22 But they fell on their faces and said, “O God, (C)God of the spirits of all flesh, (D)when one man sins, will You be angry with the entire congregation?”
23 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the congregation, saying, ‘(E)Get back from around the dwellings of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.’”
25 Then Moses arose and went to Dathan and Abiram, with the elders of Israel following him, 26 and he spoke to the congregation, saying, “(F)Turn aside now from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing that belongs to them, (G)lest you be swept away in all their sin.” 27 So they got back from around the dwellings of Korah, Dathan and Abiram; but Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the doorway of their tents, along with their wives and (H)their sons and their little ones. 28 And Moses said, “By this you shall know that (I)Yahweh has sent me to do all these deeds; for this is not from my heart. 29 If these men die [a]the death of all men or [b]if they suffer the (J)fate of all men, then Yahweh has not sent me. 30 But (K)if Yahweh creates an entirely new thing and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that is theirs, and they (L)go down to Sheol alive, then you will know that these men have spurned Yahweh.”
31 And it happened that as he finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split open; 32 and (M)the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, and their households, and (N)all the men who belonged to Korah with their possessions. 33 So they and all that belonged to them went down to Sheol alive; and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly. 34 Then all Israel who were around them fled at their [c]outcry, for they said, “Lest the earth swallow us up!” 35 (O)Fire also came forth from Yahweh and consumed the (P)250 men who were bringing near the incense.
23 And when they had set a day for Paul, they came to him at (A)his lodging in large numbers; and he was explaining to them by solemnly (B)bearing witness about the kingdom of God and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, (C)from both the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening. 24 (D)And some were being persuaded by the things spoken, but others were not believing. 25 And when they disagreed with one another, they began leaving after Paul had spoken one word, “The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers, 26 saying,
‘(E)Go to this people and say,
“[a](F)You will keep on hearing, [b]but will not understand;
And [c]you will keep on seeing, but will not perceive;
27 (G)For the heart of this people has become dull,
And with their ears they scarcely hear,
And they have closed their eyes;
Lest they might see with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart and return,
And I heal them.”’
28 Therefore let it be known to you that (H)this salvation of God was sent (I)to the Gentiles—they will also hear.” 29 [d][When he had spoken these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.]
30 And he stayed two full years [e]in his own rented quarters and was welcoming all who came to him, 31 [f](J)preaching the kingdom of God and teaching concerning the Lord Jesus Christ (K)with all confidence, unhindered.
