76 Unto the end, for Idithun, a psalm of Asaph.

² I cried to the Lord with my voice; to God with my voice, and he gave ear to me.

³ In the day of my trouble I sought God, with my hands lifted up to him in the night, and I was not deceived. My soul refused to be comforted:

⁴ I remembered God, and was delighted, and was exercised, and my spirit swooned away.

⁵ My eyes prevented the watches: I was troubled, and I spoke not.

⁶ I thought upon the days of old: and I had in my mind the eternal years.

⁷ And I meditated in the night with my own heart: and I was exercised and I swept my spirit.

⁸ Will God then cast off for ever? or will he never be more favourable again?

⁹ Or will he cut off his mercy for ever, from generation to generation?

¹⁰ Or will God forget to shew mercy? or will he in his anger shut up his mercies?

¹¹ And I said, Now have I begun: this is the change of the right hand of the most High.

¹² I remembered the works of the Lord: for I will be mindful of thy wonders from the beginning.

¹³ And I will meditate on all thy works: and will be employed in thy inventions.

¹⁴ Thy way, O God, is in the holy place: who is the great God like our God?

¹⁵ Thou art the God that dost wonders. Thou hast made thy power known among the nations:

¹⁶ With thy arm thou hast redeemed thy people the children of Jacob and of Joseph.

¹⁷ The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee: and they were afraid, and the depths were troubled.

¹⁸ Great was the noise of the waters: the clouds sent out a sound. For thy arrows pass:

¹⁹ The voice of thy thunder in a wheel. Thy lightnings enlightened the world: the earth shook and trembled.

²⁰ Thy way is in the sea, and thy paths in many waters: and thy footsteps shall not be known.

²¹ Thou hast conducted thy people like sheep, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

²⁰ And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, in the seventh day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

²¹ Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharao king of Egypt: and behold it is not bound up, to be healed, to be tied up with clothes, and swathed with linen, that it might recover strength, and hold the sword.

²² Therefore, thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I come against Pharao king of Egypt, and I will break into pieces his strong arm, which is already broken: and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand:

²³ And I will disperse Egypt among the nations, and scatter them through the countries.

²⁴ And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and will put my sword in his hand: and I will break the arms of Pharao, and they shall groan bitterly being slain before his face.

²⁵ And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharao shall fall: and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have given my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall have stretched it forth upon the land of Egypt.

²⁶ And I will disperse Egypt among the nations, and will scatter them through the countries, and they shall know that I am the Lord.

²⁵ These things I have spoken to you in proverbs. The hour cometh, when I will no more speak to you in proverbs, but will shew you plainly of the Father.

²⁶ In that day you shall ask in my name; and I say not to you, that I will ask the Father for you:

²⁷ For the Father himself loveth you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

²⁸ I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again I leave the world, and I go to the Father.

²⁹ His disciples say to him: Behold, now thou speakest plainly, and speakest no proverb.

³⁰ Now we know that thou knowest all things, and thou needest not that any man should ask thee. By this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

³¹ Jesus answered them: Do you now believe?

³² Behold, the hour cometh, and it is now come, that you shall be scattered every man to his own, and shall leave me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

³³ These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you shall have distress: but have confidence, I have overcome the world.
