Psalm 76
God, the Powerful Judge
For the choir director: with stringed instruments. A psalm of Asaph.(A) A song.
1 God is known in Judah;
His name is great in Israel.(B)
2 His tent is in Salem,[a]
His dwelling place in Zion.(C)
3 There He shatters the bow’s flaming arrows,
the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war.(D)
4 You are resplendent and majestic
coming down from the mountains of prey.(E)
5 The brave-hearted have been plundered;
they have slipped into their final sleep.
None of the warriors was able to lift a hand.(F)
6 At Your rebuke, God of Jacob,
both chariot and horse lay still.(G)
7 And You—You are to be feared.[b]
When You are angry,
who can stand before You?(H)
8 From heaven You pronounced judgment.
The earth feared and grew quiet(I)
9 when God rose up to judge
and to save all the lowly of the earth.(J)
10 Even human wrath will praise You;
You will clothe Yourself
with their remaining wrath.[c](K)
A Prophecy of Egypt’s Ruin
29 In the tenth year, in the tenth month on the twelfth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, turn your face toward Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all of Egypt.(A) 3 Speak to him and say: This is what the Lord God says:
Look, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt,
the great monster[a](B) lying in the middle of his Nile,
who says, ‘My Nile is my own;
I made it for myself.’
4 I will put hooks in your jaws(C)
and make the fish of your streams
cling to your scales.
I will haul you up
from the middle of your Nile,
and all the fish of your streams
will cling to your scales.
5 I will leave you in the desert,(D)
you and all the fish of your streams.
You will fall on the open ground
and will not be taken away
or gathered for burial.(E)
I have given you
to the beasts of the earth
and the birds of the sky as food.(F)
6 Then all the inhabitants of Egypt
will know that I am Yahweh,
for they[b] have been a staff made of reed
to the house of Israel.
7 When Israel grasped you by the hand,
you splintered,(G) tearing all their shoulders;
when they leaned on you,
you shattered and made all their hips unsteady.[c]
8 “Therefore this is what the Lord God says: I am going to bring a sword(H) against you and wipe out man and animal from you. 9 The land of Egypt will be a desolate ruin.(I) Then they will know that I am Yahweh. Because you[d] said, ‘The Nile is my own; I made it,’ 10 therefore, I am against you and your Nile. I will turn the land of Egypt into ruins, a desolate waste from Migdol to Syene, as far as the border of Cush. 11 No human foot will pass through it, and no animal foot will pass through it.(J) It will be uninhabited for 40 years. 12 I will make the land of Egypt a desolation among[e] desolate lands, and its cities will be a desolation among[f] ruined cities(K) for 40 years. I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them across the countries.(L)
The Seventh Trumpet
15 The seventh angel blew his trumpet,(A) and there were loud voices in heaven saying:
The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom
of our Lord and of His Messiah,
and He will reign forever and ever!(B)
16 The 24 elders, who were seated before God on their thrones, fell facedown and worshiped God, 17 saying:
We thank You, Lord God, the Almighty,
who is and who was,[a](C)
because You have taken Your great power
and have begun to reign.(D)
18 The nations were angry,(E)
but Your wrath has come.
The time has come
for the dead to be judged
and to give the reward
to Your servants the prophets,(F)
to the saints, and to those who fear Your name,
both small and great,(G)
and the time has come to destroy
those who destroy the earth.
19 God’s sanctuary in heaven was opened, and the ark of His covenant[b] appeared in His sanctuary. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings of thunder,(H) an earthquake,[c] and severe hail.
