Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Psalm 119
Delight in God’s Word
א Alef
1 How[a] happy are those whose way is blameless,(A)
who live according to the Lord’s instruction!(B)
2 Happy are those who keep His decrees(C)
and seek Him with all their heart.(D)
3 They do nothing wrong;(E)
they follow His ways.
4 You have commanded that Your precepts(F)
be diligently kept.
5 If only my ways were committed
to keeping Your statutes!(G)
6 Then I would not be ashamed(H)
when I think about all Your commands.
7 I will praise You with a sincere heart(I)
when I learn Your righteous judgments.
8 I will keep Your statutes;
never abandon me.(J)
32 “You are to rise in the presence of the elderly and honor the old.(A) Fear your God; I am Yahweh.
33 “When a foreigner lives with you in your land, you must not oppress(B) him. 34 You must regard the foreigner who lives with you as the native-born among you. You are to love him as yourself,(C) for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt;(D) I am Yahweh your God.
35 “You must not be unfair(E) in measurements of length, weight, or volume. 36 You are to have honest balances,(F) honest weights, an honest dry measure,[a] and an honest liquid measure;[b](G) I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. 37 You must keep all My statutes and all My ordinances and do them; I am Yahweh.”
God’s Righteousness through Faith
21 But now, apart from the law, God’s righteousness has been revealed(A)—attested by the Law and the Prophets[a](B) 22 —that is, God’s righteousness through faith(C) in Jesus Christ,[b](D) to all who believe,(E) since there is no distinction.(F) 23 For all have sinned(G) and fall short of the[c] glory of God. 24 They are justified freely by His grace(H) through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.(I) 25 God presented Him as a propitiation[d](J) through faith in His blood,(K) to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His restraint God(L) passed over the sins previously committed.(M) 26 God presented Him to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be righteous and declare righteous[e] the one who has faith in Jesus.
Boasting Excluded
27 Where then is boasting?(N) It is excluded. By what kind of law?[f](O) By one of works? No, on the contrary, by a law[g] of faith. 28 For we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.(P) 29 Or is God for Jews only?(Q) Is He not also for Gentiles? Yes, for Gentiles too, 30 since there is one God(R) who will justify the circumcised by faith(S) and the uncircumcised through faith. 31 Do we then cancel the law through faith? Absolutely not!(T) On the contrary, we uphold the law.(U)
