⁴ Surely he hath borne our infirmities and carried our sorrows: and we have thought him as it were a leper, and as one struck by God and afflicted.

⁵ But he was wounded for our iniquities, he was bruised for our sins: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his bruises we are healed.

⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray, every one hath turned aside into his own way: and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

⁷ He was offered because it was his own will, and he opened not his mouth: he shall be led as a sheep to the slaughter, and shall be dumb as a lamb before his shearer, and he shall not open his mouth.

⁸ He was taken away from distress, and from judgment: who shall declare his generation? because he is cut off out of the land of the living: for the wickedness of my people have I struck him.

⁹ And he shall give the ungodly for his burial, and the rich for his death: because he hath done no iniquity, neither was there deceit in his mouth.

¹⁰ And the Lord was pleased to bruise him in infirmity: if he shall lay down his life for sin, he shall see a long-lived seed, and the will of the Lord shall be prosperous in his hand.

¹¹ Because his soul hath laboured, he shall see and be filled: by his knowledge shall this my just servant justify many, and he shall bear their iniquities.

¹² Therefore will I distribute to him very many, and he shall divide the spoils of the strong, because he hath delivered his soul unto death, and was reputed with the wicked: and he hath borne the sins of many, and hath prayed for the transgressors.

⁹ But thou, O Lord, art most high for evermore.

¹⁰ For behold thy enemies, O Lord, for behold thy enemies shall perish: and all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

¹¹ But my horn shall be exalted like that of the unicorn: and my old age in plentiful mercy.

¹² My eye also hath looked down upon my enemies: and my ear shall hear of the downfall of the malignant that rise up against me.

¹³ The just shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow up like the cedar of Libanus.

¹⁴ They that are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of the house of our God.

¹⁵ They shall still increase in a fruitful old age: and shall be well treated,

¹⁶ That they may shew, That the Lord our God is righteous, and there is no iniquity in him.

5 For every high priest taken from among men, is ordained for men in the things that appertain to God, that he may offer up gifts and sacrifices for sins:

² Who can have compassion on them that are ignorant and that err: because he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

³ And therefore he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.

⁴ Neither doth any man take the honour to himself, but he that is called by God, as Aaron was.

⁵ So Christ also did not glorify himself, that he might be made a high priest: but he that said unto him: Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

⁶ As he saith also in another place: Thou art a priest for ever, according to the order of Melchisedech.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, with a strong cry and tears, offering up prayers and supplications to him that was able to save him from death, was heard for his reverence.

⁸ And whereas indeed he was the Son of God, he learned obedience by the things which he suffered:

⁹ And being consummated, he became, to all that obey him, the cause of eternal salvation.

¹⁰ Called by God a high priest according to the order of Melchisedech.

³⁵ And James and John the sons of Zebedee, come to him, saying: Master, we desire that whatsoever we shall ask, thou wouldst do it for us:

³⁶ But he said to them: What would you that I should do for you?

³⁷ And they said: Grant to us, that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.

³⁸ And Jesus said to them: You know not what you ask. Can you drink of the chalice that I drink of: or be baptized with the baptism wherewith I am baptized?

³⁹ But they said to him: We can. And Jesus saith to them: You shall indeed drink of the chalice that I drink of: and with the baptism wherewith I am baptized, you shall be baptized.

⁴⁰ But to sit on my right hand, or on my left, is not mine to give to you, but to them for whom it is prepared.

⁴¹ And the ten hearing it, began to be much displeased at James and John.

⁴² But Jesus calling them, saith to them: You know that they who seem to rule over the Gentiles, lord it over them: and their princes have power over them.

⁴³ But it is not so among you: but whosoever will be greater, shall be your minister.

⁴⁴ And whosoever will be first among you, shall be the servant of all.

⁴⁵ For the Son of man also is not come to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a redemption for many.
