Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
9 Because you have made the Lord—my refuge,(A)
the Most High—your dwelling place,(B)
10 no harm will come to you;
no plague will come near your tent.(C)
11 For He will give His angels orders concerning you,
to protect you in all your ways.(D)
12 They will support you with their hands
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.(E)
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the young lion and the serpent.(F)
Melchizedek’s Blessing
17 After Abram returned from defeating Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley(A)). 18 Then Melchizedek, king of Salem,[a](B) brought out bread and wine; he was a priest to God Most High.(C) 19 He blessed him and said:
Abram is blessed by God Most High,
Creator[b] of heaven and earth,
20 and I give praise to[c] God Most High
who has handed over your enemies to you.
And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.(D)
21 Then the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people, but take the possessions for yourself.”
22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand in an oath to Yahweh, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, 23 that I will not take a thread or sandal strap or anything that belongs to you, so you can never say, ‘I made Abram rich.’ 24 I will take nothing[d] except what the servants have eaten. But as for the share of the men who came with me—Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre—they can take their share.”
Glorifying God Together
7 Therefore accept one another,(A) just as the Messiah also accepted you, to the glory of God. 8 For I say that the Messiah became a servant of the circumcised[a] on behalf of God’s truth,(B) to confirm the promises to the fathers,(C) 9 and so that Gentiles(D) may glorify God for His mercy.(E) As it is written:
10 Again it says: Rejoice, you Gentiles, with His people!(G)[c] 11 And again:
12 And again, Isaiah says:
The root of Jesse(I) will appear,
the One who rises to rule the Gentiles;
the Gentiles will hope in Him.(J)[e]
13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him(K) so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.(L)
