Psalm 5

Psalm 5[a]

Prayer for Divine Help

For the leader; with wind instruments. A psalm of David.

I

Give ear to my words, O Lord;
    understand my sighing.(A)
Attend to the sound of my cry,
    my king and my God!
For to you I will pray, Lord;
    in the morning you will hear my voice;
    in the morning I will plead before you and wait.(B)

II

You are not a god who delights in evil;
    no wicked person finds refuge with you;
    the arrogant cannot stand before your eyes.
You hate all who do evil;
    you destroy those who speak falsely.(C)
A bloody and fraudulent man
    the Lord abhors.

III

But I, through the abundance of your mercy,[b]
    will enter into your house.
I will bow down toward your holy sanctuary
    out of fear of you.(D)
Lord, guide me in your justice because of my foes;
    make straight your way before me.(E)

IV

10 For there is no sincerity in their mouth;
    their heart is corrupt.
Their throat[c] is an open grave;(F)
    on their tongue are subtle lies.
11 Declare them guilty, God;
    make them fall by their own devices.(G)
Drive them out for their many sins;
    for they have rebelled against you.

V

12 Then all who trust in you will be glad
    and forever shout for joy.(H)
You will protect them and those will rejoice in you
    who love your name.
13 For you, Lord, bless the just one;
    you surround him with favor like a shield.

Zechariah 8:18-23

Three Oracles: Judah and the Nations. 18 The word of the Lord of hosts came to me:

19 Thus says the Lord of hosts:

The fast days of the fourth, the fifth, the seventh, and the tenth months[a](A) will become occasions of joy and gladness, and happy festivals for the house of Judah.(B) So love faithfulness and peace!

20 Thus says the Lord of hosts:

There will yet come peoples and inhabitants of many cities;(C) 21 and the inhabitants of one city will approach those of another, and say, “Come! let us go to implore the favor of the Lord and to seek the Lord of hosts. I too am going.” 22 Many peoples and strong nations will come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem and to implore the favor of the Lord.

23 Thus says the Lord of hosts:

In those days ten people from nations of every language will take hold,(D) yes, will take hold of the cloak of every Judahite and say, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”

1 John 2:18-25

Antichrists. 18 Children, it is the last hour;[a] and just as you heard that the antichrist was coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. Thus we know this is the last hour.(A) 19 They went out from us, but they were not really of our number;[b] if they had been, they would have remained with us. Their desertion shows that none of them was of our number. 20 But you have the anointing that comes from the holy one,[c] and you all have knowledge.(B) 21 I write to you not because you do not know the truth but because you do, and because every lie is alien to the truth.(C) 22 [d]Who is the liar? Whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Whoever denies the Father and the Son, this is the antichrist.(D) 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father, but whoever confesses the Son has the Father as well.(E)

Life from God’s Anointing. 24 (F)Let what you heard from the beginning remain in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, then you will remain in the Son and in the Father.[e] 25 And this is the promise that he made us: eternal life.(G)
