Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Men Seek Jeremiah’s Life
18 Moreover, Yahweh (A)made it known to me, and I knew it;
Then You showed me their deeds.
19 But I was like a gentle (B)lamb led to the slaughter;
And I did not know that they had (C)devised thoughts against me, saying,
“Let us make the tree with its [a]fruit a ruin,
And (D)let us cut him off from the (E)land of the living,
That his (F)name be remembered no more.”
20 But, O Yahweh of hosts, who (G)judges righteously,
Who (H)tests the [b]insides and the heart,
Let me see Your vengeance on them,
For to You have I revealed my case.
God Is My Helper
For the choir director. With stringed instruments. A [a]Maskil of David. [b]When the Ziphites came and said to Saul, “Is not David hiding himself among us?”
54 O God, save me by (A)Your name,
And render justice to me by (B)Your might.
2 (C)O God, hear my prayer;
(D)Give ear to the words of my mouth.
3 For strangers have (E)risen against me
And (F)ruthless men have (G)sought my [c]life;
They have (H)not set God before them. [d]Selah.
Wisdom from Above
13 Who among you is wise and understanding? (A)Let him show by his (B)good conduct his works in the gentleness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter (C)jealousy and [a]selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against (D)the truth. 15 This wisdom is not coming down (E)from above, but is (F)earthly, [b](G)natural, (H)demonic. 16 For where (I)jealousy and [c]selfish ambition exist, [d]there is disorder and every evil practice. 17 But the wisdom (J)from above is first (K)pure, then (L)peaceable, (M)considerate, submissive, (N)full of mercy and good fruits, (O)without doubting, without (P)hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness (Q)is sown in peace [e]by those who make peace.
Draw Near to God
4 [f]What is the source of quarrels and (R)conflicts among you? [g]Is not the source your pleasures that wage (S)war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have, so you (T)murder. You are envious and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and (U)do not receive, because you ask [h]with wrong motives, so that you may spend it [i]on your pleasures.
Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection
30 (A)From there they went out and were going through Galilee, and He was not wanting anyone to know about it. 31 For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “(B)The Son of Man is to be [a]delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise again three days later.” 32 But (C)they [b]did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.
33 (D)And they came to Capernaum; and when He [c]was in (E)the house, He began to question them, “What were you discussing on the way?” 34 But they kept silent, for on the way (F)they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest. 35 And sitting down, He called the twelve and *said to them, “(G)If anyone wants to be first, [d]he shall be last of all and servant of all.” 36 And taking a child, He set him [e]before them. And taking him in His arms, He said to them, 37 “(H)Whoever receives [f]one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.”
