A Psalm of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed.

¹ ¶ I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

² My soul shall glory in the LORD; the meek shall hear of this, and be glad.

³ O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

⁴ I sought the LORD, and he heard me and delivered me from all my fears.

⁵ They looked unto him and were lightened, and their faces were not ashamed.

⁶ This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.

⁷ The angel of the LORD encamps round about those that fear him and delivers them.

⁸ O taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man that shall trust in him.

2 ¶ Now the days of David drew near that he should die; and he charged Solomon, his son, saying,

² I go the way of all the earth; be thou strong therefore and show thyself a man.

³ Keep the charge of the LORD thy God, walking in his ways, keeping his statutes and his commandments and his rights and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou may have understanding in all that thou doest and in everything that thou dost undertake,

⁴ that the LORD may confirm the word which he spoke concerning me, saying, If thy sons take heed to their way, walking before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel.

⁵ Moreover thou knowest also what Joab, the son of Zeruiah, did to me and what he did to the two captains of the host of Israel, unto Abner, the son of Ner and unto Amasa, the son of Jether, whom he slew, shedding the blood of war in peace and putting the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins and in his shoes that were on his feet.

⁶ Do, therefore, according to thy wisdom and let not his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace.

⁷ But show mercy unto the sons of Barzillai, the Gileadite, and let them be of those that eat at thy table, for they came thus unto me when I fled because of Absalom, thy brother.

⁸ And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei, the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim. But he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.

⁹ Now therefore do not hold him guiltless, for thou art a wise man and knowest what thou should do with him, but thou shalt bring his hoar head down to Sheol with blood.

⁷ ¶ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you;

⁸ for every one that asks receives, and he that seeks finds, and to him that knocks it shall be opened.

⁹ Or what man is there of you, whom, if his son asks for bread, will he give him a stone?

¹⁰ Or if he asks for fish, will he give him a serpent?

¹¹ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in the heavens give good things to those that ask him?
