² And the whole assembly of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness.

³ And the children of Israel said to them, Would that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh-pots, when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole congregation with hunger!

⁴ Then said Jehovah to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather the daily need on its day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.

⁹ And Moses spoke to Aaron, Say to all the assembly of the children of Israel, Come near into the presence of Jehovah; for he has heard your murmurings.

¹⁰ And it came to pass, when Aaron spoke to the whole assembly of the children of Israel, that they turned toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of Jehovah appeared in the cloud.

¹¹ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

¹² I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak to them, saying, Between the two evenings ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah your God.

¹³ And it came to pass in the evening, that quails came up, and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay round the camp.

¹⁴ And when the dew that lay [round it] was gone up, behold, on the face of the wilderness there was [something] fine, granular, fine as hoar-frost, on the ground.

¹⁵ And the children of Israel saw [it], and said one to another, What is it? for they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which Jehovah has given you to eat.

²³ Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and had opened the doors of the heavens,

²⁴ And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them the corn of the heavens.

²⁵ Man did eat the bread of the mighty; he sent them provision to the full.

²⁶ He caused the east wind to rise in the heavens, and by his strength he brought the south wind;

²⁷ And he rained flesh upon them as dust, and feathered fowl as the sand of the seas,

²⁸ And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations:

²⁹ And they did eat, and were well filled; for that they lusted after, he brought to them.

4 *I*, the prisoner in [the] Lord, exhort you therefore to walk worthy of the calling wherewith ye have been called,

² with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, bearing with one another in love;

³ using diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the uniting bond of peace.

⁴ [There is] one body and one Spirit, as ye have been also called in one hope of your calling;

⁵ one Lord, one faith, one baptism;

⁶ one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.

⁷ But to each one of us has been given grace according to the measure of the gift of the Christ.

⁸ Wherefore he says, Having ascended up on high, he has led captivity captive, and has given gifts to men.

⁹ But that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth?

¹⁰ He that descended is the same who has also ascended up above all the heavens, that he might fill all things;

¹¹ and *he* has given some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some shepherds and teachers,

¹² for the perfecting of the saints; with a view to [the] work of [the] ministry, with a view to the edifying of the body of Christ;

¹³ until we all arrive at the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, at [the] full-grown man, at [the] measure of the stature of the fulness of the Christ;

¹⁴ in order that we may be no longer babes, tossed and carried about by every wind of *that* teaching [which is] in the sleight of men, in unprincipled cunning with a view to systematized error;

¹⁵ but, holding the truth in love, we may grow up to him in all things, who is the head, the Christ:

¹⁶ from whom the whole body, fitted together, and connected by every joint of supply, according to [the] working in [its] measure of each one part, works for itself the increase of the body to its self-building up in love.

²⁴ when therefore the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, *they* got into the ships, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

²⁵ And having found him the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when art thou arrived here?

²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me not because ye have seen signs, but because ye have eaten of the loaves and been filled.

²⁷ Work not [for] the food which perishes, but [for] the food which abides unto life eternal, which the Son of man shall give to you; for him has the Father sealed, [even] God.

²⁸ They said therefore to him, What should we do that we may work the works of God?

²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom *he* has sent.

³⁰ They said therefore to him, What sign then doest thou that we may see and believe thee? what dost thou work?

³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.

³² Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, [It is] not Moses that has given you the bread out of heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.

³³ For the bread of God is he who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.

³⁴ They said therefore to him, Lord, ever give to us this bread.

³⁵ [And] Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes on me shall never thirst at any time.
