Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
2 ¶ And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak with thee.
2 And spirit entered into me when he spoke unto me and set me upon my feet, and I heard him that spoke unto me.
3 And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the sons of Israel, to rebellious Gentiles that have rebelled against me: they and their fathers have rebelled against me, even unto this very day.
4 And to sons that have hard faces and strong hearts do I send thee; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath the Lord GOD said.
5 And they will not hear nor forbear (for they are a rebellious house), but they shall know that there has been a prophet among them.
A Song of degrees.
1 ¶ Unto thee I lift up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
2 Behold, as the eyes of slaves look unto the hand of their masters and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress, so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until he shall have mercy upon us.
3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us, for we are exceedingly weary of being held in contempt.
4 Our soul is exceedingly weary of the scorning of those that are at ease and of the contempt of the proud.
2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell; God knows) was caught up to the third heaven.
3 And I know such a man (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell; God knows)
4 who was caught up into paradise and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
5 Of such a one I will glory, yet of myself I will not glory, except in my weaknesses.
6 Therefore if I should desire to glory in these things, I should not be a fool; for I would say the truth, but now I forbear lest anyone should think of me above that which he sees me to be or that he hears of me.
7 And lest the greatness of the revelations should exalt me above measure, there is given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
8 For this thing I besought the Lord three times that it might be taken from me.
9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather glory in my weaknesses that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
10 Therefore I am content in weaknesses, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake, for when I am weak, then am I strong.
6 ¶ And he went out from there and came into his own country, and his disciples followed him.
2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue; and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From where has this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him and such mighty works that are wrought by his hands?
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joses and of Juda and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not dishonoured except in his own country and among his own kin and in his own house.
5 And he could do no mighty work there except that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk and healed them.
6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went through the villages round about, teaching.
7 ¶ And he called unto him the twelve and began to send them forth by two and two and gave them power over the unclean spirits
8 and commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey except a staff only: no provision bag, no bread, no money in their purse;
9 but be shod with sandals and not put on two coats.
10 And he said unto them, In whatever place ye enter into a house, there abide until ye depart from that place.
11 And whosoever shall not receive you nor hear you, when ye depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet in testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment than for that city.
12 And they went out and preached that men should repent.
13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many that were sick, and they were healed.
