Christian Standard Bible (CSB)
Version
Deuteronomy 5:12-15

12 Be careful to remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy as the Lord your God has commanded you. 13 You are to labor six days and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. Do not do any work—you, your son or daughter, your male or female slave, your ox or donkey, any of your livestock, or the resident alien who lives within your city gates, so that your male and female slaves may rest as you do.

15 Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out of there with a strong hand and an outstretched arm. That is why the Lord your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

Psalm 81:1-10

Psalm 81

A Call to Obedience

For the choir director: on the Gittith. Of Asaph.(A)

Sing for joy to God our strength;
shout in triumph to the God of Jacob.(B)
Lift up a song—play the tambourine,
the melodious lyre, and the harp.(C)
Blow the ram’s horn on the day of our feasts[a]
during the new moon(D)
and during the full moon.
For this is a statute for Israel,
an ordinance of the God of Jacob.(E)
He set it up as a decree for Joseph
when he went throughout[b] the land of Egypt.(F)
I heard an unfamiliar language:
“I relieved his shoulder from the burden;
his hands were freed from carrying the basket.(G)
You called out in distress, and I rescued you;
I answered you from the thundercloud.(H)
I tested you at the Waters of Meribah.(I)Selah
Listen, my people, and I will admonish you.
Israel, if you would only listen to me!(J)
There must not be a strange god among you;
you must not bow down to a foreign god.(K)
10 I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up from the land of Egypt.(L)
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.(M)

2 Corinthians 4:5-12

For we are not proclaiming ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord,(A) and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’s sake. For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”(B) has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge(C) of God’s glory(D) in the face of Jesus Christ.

Treasure in Clay Jars

Now we have this treasure in clay jars, so that this extraordinary power(E) may be from God and not from us. We are afflicted in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. 10 We always carry the death of Jesus(F) in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be displayed in our body. 11 For we who live are always being given over to death(G) for Jesus’s sake, so that Jesus’s life may also be displayed in our mortal flesh. 12 So then, death is at work in us, but life in you.

Mark 2:23-3:6

Lord of the Sabbath

23 On(A) the Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and his disciples(B) began to make their way, picking some heads of grain. 24 The Pharisees(C) said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful(D) on the Sabbath?”

25 He said to them, “Have you never read what David(E) and those who were with him did when he was in need(F) and hungry(G) 26 how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar(H) the high priest(I) and ate the bread of the Presence(J) —which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests(K) —and also gave some to his companions?” 27 Then he told them, “The Sabbath was made for[a] man and not man for the Sabbath.(L) 28 So then, the Son of Man(M) is Lord(N) even of the Sabbath.”(O)

Jesus(P) entered the synagogue(Q) again, and a man was there who had a shriveled(R) hand. In order to accuse(S) him, they were watching him closely(T) to see whether he would heal(U) him on the Sabbath.(V) He told the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand before us.” Then he said to them, “Is it lawful(W) to do good(X) on the Sabbath or to do evil,(Y) to save life(Z) or to kill?”(AA) But they were silent.(AB) After looking around at them with anger,(AC) he was grieved at the hardness(AD) of their hearts and told the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.(AE) Immediately the Pharisees(AF) went out and started plotting(AG) with the Herodians(AH) against him, how they might kill(AI) him.
