Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Thanksgiving for Yahweh’s Compassion
Of David.[a]
103 Bless Yahweh, O my soul,
and all within me, bless his holy name.
2 Bless Yahweh, O my soul,
and do not forget all his benefits:
3 who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with loyal love and mercies,
5 who satisfies your life with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6 Yahweh does deeds of justice
and judgments for all who are oppressed,
7 who made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people[b] of Israel.
8 Yahweh is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger[c] and abundant in loyal love.
9 He does not dispute continually,
nor keep his anger forever.
10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
nor repaid us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so his loyal love prevails over those who fear him.
12 As far as east is from west,
so he has removed far from us the guilt of our transgressions.
13 As a father pities[d] his children,
so Yahweh pities[e] those who fear him.
22 Bless Yahweh, all his works,[a]
in all the places of his dominion.
Bless Yahweh, O my soul.
53 And I will restore their fortune, the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters, and the fortunes of Samaria and her daughters, and even the fortunes of your captivity in the midst of them, 54 in order that you may bear your disgrace and you may be put to shame because of all that you did at your consoling them. 55 And as for your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, they will return to their former state, and Samaria and her daughters, they will return to their former state, and you and your daughters will return to your former state. 56 And was not Sodom, your sister, a byword in your mouth in the day of your pride 57 before[a] your evil was uncovered? It was like the time of the scorn of the daughters of Aram and all those around her, and of the daughters of the Philistines, those all around who are despising you. 58 Your wickedness and your detestable things, you, you must bear them,’ declares[b] Yahweh. 59 ‘For thus says the Lord Yahweh: And I will do it[c] to you according to what you have done,[d] who despised the oath to break covenant. 60 And I, I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish with you an everlasting covenant.[e] 61 And you will remember your ways, and you will be ashamed when you take your sisters, both the older and the younger,[f] and I give them to you as daughters, but not on account of your covenant. 62 And I, I will establish my covenant with you, and you will know that I am Yahweh, 63 in order that you will remember, and you will be ashamed, and you will not open your mouth again[g] because of[h] your disgrace when I forgive you for all that you have done!’” declares[i] the Lord Yahweh.

A Woman Caught in Adultery
8 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Now early in the morning he came again to the temple courts.[b] And all the people were coming,[c] and he sat down and[d] began to teach[e] them.
3 Now the scribes and the Pharisees brought to him a woman[f] caught in adultery. And standing her in their midst, 4 they said to him, testing him,[g] “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery! 5 Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” 6 (Now they were saying this to test him, so that they would have an occasion[h] to bring charges against him.) But Jesus, bending down, began to write[i] with his[j] finger on the ground, taking no notice.[k] 7 And when they persisted in asking him, straightening up he said[l] to them, “The one of you without sin, let him throw the first stone at her!” 8 And bending down again, he wrote on the ground. 9 Now when they[m] heard it,[n] being convicted by their conscience,[o] they began to depart,[p] one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus[q] was left alone—and the woman who was in their midst. 10 So Jesus, straightening up and seeing no one except the woman,[r] said to her, “Where are those accusers of yours?[s] Does no one condemn you?” 11 And she said, “No one, Lord.” So Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and[t] sin no more.”]][u]
