Acts 1:15-17

15 At that time,[a] Peter got up among the brothers (there were about 120 people present) and said, 16 “Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the voice of David about Judas, who was the guide for those who arrested Jesus, 17 because he was one of our number and was appointed[b] to share in this ministry.”

Acts 1:21-26

21 who was one of the men associated with us all the time the Lord Jesus came and went among us, 22 beginning when he was baptized by John until the day he was taken up from us. Therefore, someone like this[a] must become a witness with us to his resurrection.”

23 So they nominated two men—Joseph called Barsabbas, who also was called Justus, and Matthias. 24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know the hearts of all people. Show us which one of these two men you have chosen 25 to serve in this office of apostle,[b] from which Judas left to go to his own place.”

26 So they drew lots for them, and when the lot fell on Matthias, he was enrolled with the eleven apostles.

Psalm 1

BOOK I (Psalms 1-41)

The Righteous and the Wicked[a]

How blessed is the person,
who does not take[b] the advice of the wicked,
who does not stand on the path with sinners,
and who does not sit in the seat of mockers.
But he delights in the Lord’s instruction,[c]
and meditates in his instruction[d] day and night.
He will be like a tree planted by streams of water,
yielding its fruit in its season,
and whose leaf does not wither.
He will prosper in everything he does.

But this is not the case with the wicked.
They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not escape[e] judgment,
nor will sinners have a place[f] in the assembly of the righteous.
For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will be destroyed.

1 John 5:9-13

If we accept human testimony, God’s testimony is greater, because it is the testimony of God and because he has testified about his Son. 10 The person who believes in the Son of God believes this testimony personally.[a] The person who does not believe God[b] has made him a liar by not believing the testimony that he[c] has given about his Son.

11 This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is found in his Son. 12 The person who has the Son has this life. The person who does not have the Son of God does not have this life.

Conclusion

13 I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

John 17:6-19

I have made your name known to these men whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they realize that everything you gave me comes from you, because the words that you gave me I passed on to them. They have received them and know for sure that I came from you. They have believed that you sent me.

“I am asking on their behalf. I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those you gave me, because they are yours. 10 All that is mine is yours, and what is yours is mine, and I have been glorified through them. 11 I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by your Name, the Name[a] that you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I protected them by the authority[b] that you gave me. I guarded them, and not one of them became lost except the one who was destined for[c] destruction, so that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

13 “And now I am coming to you, and I say these things in the world so that they may have my joy made complete in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they do not belong to the world, just as I don’t belong to the world. 15 I’m not asking you to take them out of the world but to protect them from the evil one. 16 They don’t belong to the world, just as I don’t belong to the world.

17 “Sanctify them by the truth. Your word is truth. 18 Just as you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 It is for their sakes that I sanctify myself, so that they, too, may be sanctified by the truth.
