A Song of Ascents

The Exiles Restored

126 When the Lord brought back Zion’s exiles,[a]
    we were like dreamers.[b]
Then our mouths were filled with laughter,
and our tongues formed joyful shouts.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
The great things that the Lord has done for us
    gladden us.

Restore our exiles,[c] Lord,
like the streams of the Negev.[d]
Those who weep while they plant
will sing for joy while they harvest.
The one who goes out weeping,[e]
    carrying a bag of seeds,
will surely return with a joyful song,
    bearing sheaves from his harvest.[f]

Habakkuk 3:2-6

Lord, as I listen to what has been said about you,
    I am afraid.
Lord, revive your work throughout all of our lives—
reveal yourself[a] throughout all of our lives—
when you[b] are angry,
    remember compassion.

God comes from Teman[c]
the Holy One from Mount Paran.[d]
Interlude
His glory spreads throughout the heavens,
and praises about him fill the earth.
His radiance is like sunlight;
beams of light shine[e] from his hand,
        where his strength lays hidden.
Before him pestilence walks,
    and disease follows behind him.[f]

He stood up and shook the land;
with his stare he startled the nations.
The age-old mountains were shattered,
and the ancient hilltops bowed down.

His ways are eternal.

Philippians 3:12-16

Pursuing the Goal

12 It’s not that I have already reached this goal or have already become perfect. But I keep pursuing it, hoping somehow to embrace it just as I have been embraced by the Messiah[a] Jesus. 13 Brothers, I do not consider myself to have embraced it yet.[b] But this one thing I do: Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I keep pursuing the goal to win the prize[c] of God’s heavenly call in the Messiah[d] Jesus.

15 Therefore, those of us who are mature[e] should think this way. And if you think differently about anything, God will show you how to think.[f] 16 However, we should live up to what we have achieved so far.
