Psalm 27

A Psalm of David.

¶ The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

Though a host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life to behold the beauty of the LORD and to enquire in his temple.

For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his tabernacle; in the secret of his tent shall he hide me; he shall set me high upon a rock.

And now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me; therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in his tabernacle; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

¶ Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me and answer me.

My heart has spoken unto me from thee, Seek my face. Thy face, O LORD, will I seek.

Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy slave away in anger: thou hast been my help; do not leave me or forsake me, O God of my saving health.

10 For my father and my mother have left me, and the LORD has taken me up.

11 Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a right path because of my enemies.

12 Deliver me not over unto the will of my enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me and such as breathe out cruelty.

13 I had fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

14 Wait for the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, for the LORD.

Isaiah 4:2-6

¶ In that day the branch of the LORD shall be for beauty and glory and the fruit of the earth for greatness and honour to those that are freed of Israel.

And it shall come to pass that he that is left in Zion and he that remains in Jerusalem shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem,

When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning.

And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of Mount Zion and upon the places of her assemblies a cloud and darkness by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night because over all glory there shall be a covering.

And there shall be a covert for a shadow in the daytime from the heat and for a place of refuge and for a shelter from storm and from rain.

Acts 11:1-18

11 ¶ And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

When Peter was come up to Jerusalem, those that were of the circumcision contended with him,

saying, Why didst thou go in to men uncircumcised and eat with them?

But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a rapture of understanding I saw a vision: A certain vessel descended like a great sheet let down from heaven by the four corners, and it came unto me,

upon which when I had fastened my eyes, I considered and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth and wild beasts and reptiles and fowls of the air.

And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter, slay and eat.

But I said, Not so, Lord, for nothing common or unclean has at any time entered into my mouth.

But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God has cleansed, do not call common.

10 And this was done three times, and it was all drawn up again into heaven.

11 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.

12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, doubting nothing. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:

13 And he showed us how he had seen an angel in his house, who stood and said unto him, Send to Joppa and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter,

14 who shall tell thee words, by which thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, when he said, John indeed baptized in water, but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

17 So then, if God gave them the same gift as he did unto us, who have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I should withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they were silent and glorified God, saying, Then God has also granted repentance unto life to the Gentiles.
